  • RCI Cancellation Rules Under the New System

I've never had to cancel a reservation in RCI. I have a reservation in Maine for New Years Week - Bethel Inn, 12/30 to 1/6 for Skiing and cant do anything that week now due to work requirements.

What are the new rules for cancellations? Will I get a refund of my exchange fee this far ahead? Will I get my full initial deposit back? Do I loose anything now? Is the cancelled week of some less value?

Could I extend a cancelled week by combining now?

    Thanks!!!

I take it you did not buy the cancellation insurnace. Do as Rapmarks says and double check online in the section that shows the exchange... sometimes the insurance is offered after the 30 day mark. Most times not. If you did/can but the insurance you will get your full TPUs back plus the exchange fee in the form of a 'coupon' that is good for 6 months toward another exchange fee. The coupon is not good/applied to any other fees.

If you did not/can not buy the insurance, then you will lose the exchange fee for sure. As for the TPUs, they will probably be 'discounted' based on how close you are to check in date when you cancel. A RCI rep may be able to tell you how much you'll be banged if you call and ask (but probably not!). You may have to just take your chances, cancel, and see what you get back.

From the Rci website: "Without Vacation Protection, if you cancel your exchange, your Deposit Trading Power may be reduced, based on the Trading Power Adjustment Schedule."

Ok, but what does that mean exactly? If I made the deposit used for the soon to be cancelled exchange 12 months out from check in and cancel at 3 months out from the exchange date check in, then I get whatever the deposit value is for the deposit as if I had deposited it at 3 months out? What if the check in date has already passed, since I have 2 years after check in date to do an exchange - what date would be used then?

The probability is that the underlying deposit is long gone. Using its deposit date to calculate 'worth' when an exchange is cancelled makes little sense to me, but the again, what other dates can RCI possibly use??

            Reservation Cancelled

We can't go, so we had to cancel.

End result was we got the original deposit back, but now its split into two, one at the 21 points for the New Years reservation and another at 14 points left over from the original transaction. The dates left on each are as they were originally - good till 2013.

We lost the reservation fee of course.

            This is actually quite positive.

              Good for you!
The only negative is that u would need to pay a combo fee to use your two halves; on the other hand you could possibly find exchanges that fit within those parameters.
Personally, I would not mind eating the exchange fee as long as I got the TPUs back.
