RCI increased the Fees because they can. At what Exchange Fee would you stop Exchanging?

    Walt,

The exchange fee is only one element of exchanging. Some of the weeks I own, I will never occupy.

I look at the total cost (MF, EXchange fee, membership fee, amortized purchase costs, lost interest).

But a few dollars is not even always the deciding factor. If I want a 2br 2 bath full kitchen unit in a specific place at a specific time then exchange companies have some additional inventory available that might not be available for rental at any price. Renting is not always an option.

More availability in the rental area might change my mind but $15 increase in exchange fee will not.

Just because they can increase fees, they do.

Just because they want to build profit by using weeks in the rental sites, they do.

Just because they continue to do this, they will continue to lose customers....but the sad fact is that like my brother always told me "a sucker is born every minute" and RCI knows this....while many of us are finding a way around RCI, there are unfortunate newbies taking our places....

These newbies have not found TS4ms and they don't have a clue how they are being abused ...yet.

Lawsuits are NOT the reason for the fee increases....GREEEEEEEEEEEEED is the primary and probably the TOTAL reason.

Service improvements are not the driving force behind the fee increases.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

With more and more Exchanges done on line this is the only reason for an increase.

This is what I found on RCI's Sign In page today.

Maintenance Notice: RCI.com will be unavailable on Tuesday, March 01, 2005 from 12:30 am (EST) until Tuesday, March 01, 2005 at 1:30 am (EST), while the site undergoes essential maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I would if they know what day it is?

The Point is "There is a limit to the increase of RCI's Exchanges Fees."

If RCI's charge was $300 per Exchange today what would say?

I think we will just avoid RCI. The only reason we have remained RCI members is for the last call rentals and that seems to be going away. We don't plan on renewing our membership when it come up.

Is your brother's name David Hannum? He is the one who actually coined the term "There's a sucker born every minute." It has been inappropriately attributed to PT Barnum.

Here's the story: The story behind, "There's a sucker born every minute"

RCI has finally crossed the point where I believe their fees are too high to use for exchanging. I won't be using them much anymore.

Someone posted an eBay auction for a domain name with a starting bid of $500k. I think it was www.investtimeshare.com or something like that.

I'll bet that www.rcisucks.com is worth a lot more than that now.

At some point the cost of the exchange fee would pay for a nice hotel (at hotwire or hotel.com) at the rate that it keeps increasing. I know you would not have some of the same features of a resort, but hey, it is still a vacation.

Better yet, use one of their competitors with a lower exchange fee, like DAE, HTSE, PI, TPI, or SFX
