I am not very practiced at this. In fact, I only have made one Points exchange so far, ever, and that was for a full week.
I am looking at maybe reserving just a day (or 2) in December. It's my DH's birthday and I have several fun activities planned in the Miami area, mostly around the general Key Biscayne area. I've reserved a hotel on Collins Ave. (in the heart of the action so to speak) on Booking.com, which is fully refundable/cancellable for Saturday night. I'd love to take him down Friday evening too but am having a hard time justifying the add night's cost (hotel room and parking is not cheap!).
So I decided to see if I could get something decent using Points. I found Hollywood Towers is available - supposedly - for Saturday night. 1 bedroom, partial kitchen (which is fine for such a short stay), and at a reasonable cost for my points and the transaction fee.
But... no where does it say what the housekeeping fee will be. There always is one for short stays as far as I understand. When I click thru to payment, it just shows the transaction fee being charged. Don't I pay any housekeeping fee when I do the exchange? Or is that billed and collected seperatley by the resort? And even if it is, it should be noted clearly BEFORE I hit the final make-it-happen button. What am I missing? Or where am I missing it?? Did this info disappear with the upgrade last weekend?
On a different timeshare I briefly considered, the housekeeping fee of $75 (!!) was clearly stated in the addiotnal info screen before clicking thru to payment. But Hollywood Towers - nothing.
As an added aside, the website shows that I could reserve for just one day (Saturday night) but when I click thru on that, it dumps. I can click thru if I choose a 2 night stay (Saturday and Sunday - I really want Friday and Saturday but that's not showing up as available at all). I also understand that usually one night isn't worth it with the added cleaning fees, but since I don't even know what they will be, it's hard to make the decision. And in this case, it might be worth it due to the high cost of hotels rooms, parking, etc. for one night.
I may decide to keep the hotel anyway as it's more central and convenient to what I have planned but still, I do want to understand how this Points thing would actually work if I did go that way.

Used to be a nice Sonesta but they destroyed it so the cheap places are gone.
