  • Points is seeing weeks inventory sooner than Weeks

So I was poking around in my RCI Points account last night, now that it has been "fixed" and I noticed something. I was seeing weeks inventory sooner in points than at weeks. This was on inventory that RCI releases at specific periods (like WM mthly bulk banks) so I was waiting for it to show up. We're talking a few hours difference here but on highly scarce/demanded inventory, that's the difference about getting it and not getting it.

Having an ongoing search doesn't really work because it wasn't matching to the ongoing search in weeks.

Given that RCI's interface between Points and Weeks has always been highly discriminatory against Weeks, while this is appalling it is not surprising. Weeks members have always been cheated as to their own system's inventory, and this is just continuing that practice on another level.

The unfairness to Weeks of the interface between Points and Weeks was one of the two reasons that the Seasons timeshare chain in Europe cited (the other was rentals to the general public) and explained in detail to their members when they dumped RCI and switched to II. It is too bad that the special issue of their newsletter where they fired a withering broadside at RCI over both issues has cycled off their website. It really laid out the problem very well. What you have discovered has only made it worse.

In the class action lawsuit, the Points / Weeks interface was one of the issues raised by one of the two lawsuits that were consolidated. Unfortunately the lawyers in the other lawsuit did not want to address this issue and it was not included in the consolidated complaint. If it were possible to find an honest lawyer who would not be bought off by huge legal fees to knuckle under to a phony settlement, this would be a great issue for a new lawsuit. I would love to see RCI hammered on these issues.

Ultimately, given the way RCI does biz, the only guarantee for members would be to put a firewall between the two systems, where Points only traded for Points inventory and ''Weeks'' only traded for ''Weeks'' inventory.

Interesting. You make a valid point if on-going searches are not working and you get a few hours of picking up those tough summer weeks it would be a make or break.

I am very unhappy with the new RCI for a lot of reasons. There are so many ads and extra sparkle it takes searches and even page advances AGES. I wish they would give us a way to opt out of that stuff to speed the process. I really am not interested in the "you may also be interested in resorts".

RCI weeks is still pulling down internet explorer as soon as you "search for a vacation". Those are my main beefs. Although, extremely stagnant inventory (except for expected system bulkbanks), poorly considered TPU values and other things are also in my "Why do I bother anymore" file.

I only have so many points so I have to be very selective with what I book. I have more TPUs than points so that's why I primarily search with Weeks. I don't know why the ongoing searches didn't pick it up but there's been more than enough threads about searches not matching.

I don't know if other points systems portals (ie. SVC, BG, Wyn) have access sooner now as well. I have ready OY that someone was seeing a lot of DVC weeks using Shell that wasn't available with either Weeks or RCI points.

I just got my new superfast laptop so this is less of an issue for me now. However, it's about marketing and sizzle. Make it look and smell nice and people will buy it, even if it's a crappy product.

I don't have this problem. Have you changed your default web browser to be someothing other than IE? If you haven't, then it will pull using IE.
