  • RCI Points possibly expiring

Due to a number of factors I may have to let a banked week that is carrying 19 points with RCI expire. I have just checked in my RCI account and those points are showing me 26,750 units at 1,893 resorts worldwide, including many options to split the 19 points into 2 weeks at the same resort back to back. The last travel date for these points would be 29th April.
I am currently waiting on my son getting back to me regarding him setting up something with a few friends but I think the chance of that going ahead is fairly low. That being the case can someone explain what my options are for transferring on the "New Weeks" generated points to someone else's account.
I do have a seperate RCI "Points" account and know how to transfer the points with that, but the "new" weeks system is still a little cloudy to me.
I know I could book something for someone and then have them pay me the cost of the exchange and the guest certificate but I don't fancy checking a whole bunch of requests to see if a certain resort is available, on a certain date for everyone.
It just seems a shame to let the points expire.

If you have any weeks with a later expiration you can pay the $99 to combine your expiring weeks with those and extend them. Barring that RCI used to have a extension fee and you could push them out 6 months or a year. Combining makes a lot more sense both monetarily and by moving everything out 2 years from the date o f combing. ( see bold)

    Here it is:

How To Extend An Expiring Week
Each vacation week deposit is available for exchange one year prior to its start date through two years afterwards. The check-in date of the confirmed vacation using a deposit must fall within this timeframe. RCI has, however, developed a program that allows members with vacation deposits about to expire to extend their usage. You may purchase extensions to your deposited weeks anytime prior to the expiration if you wish. A one month extension is available for $29 USD / $32 CAD; a three-month extension is available for $69 USD / $75 CAD, and a six-month extension is $109 USD / $119 CAD. Additional extensions may be purchased; however, your week may not ultimately be extended for more than one full year. Since this program is not supported online, please call our Member Services Department at 800/338-7777 to purchase an extension. You may also choose to combine your expiring deposit with another deposit or Deposit Credit on your account. You must pay the $99 USD / $108 CAD fee for combining deposits or Deposit Credits. After combining, the new Combined Deposit will have a Deposit Trading Power equal to the combined values of all deposit(s) and Deposit Credit(s) combined in the transaction. In addition, the Combined Deposit will be eligible for travel for 2 years from the date combined. * RCI fees are subject to change at RCI's sole discretion. For complete details of RCI subscribing membership, including RCI's cancellation policy, please consult the Terms and Conditions of RCIĀ® Weeks Subscribing Membership. CAD fees are inclusive of any applicable Canadian taxes

Thanks Lawren, I just phoned RCI and they confirmed what you said and to extend 1 full year would be $238. Seems like a lot of money because by the time you also pay the exchange fee it would end up about the same as buying from the Extra Vacation Inventory. I am currently sorting out another issue with RCI for which they are sending me out some paperwork to sign. Until I sign this and send it back to them I can't do anything with the account so I have probably 2 weeks of hard thinking to decide what to do with the week.
