  • What are my chances of scoring DVC?

Hi all! I recently took over my mother-in-law's RCI timeshare and am dying to get back to disney! I have a weeks membership but there are no DVC weeks up for exchange at all right now. We have a flexible travel window...what are my chances of seeing a weeks exchange pop up for april or may of this year? What about october/november? If anybody out there keeps an eye on this I would appreciate any suggestions! If I'm not going to get lucky I may as well start planning a trip elsewhere! Thanks

April and May are long gone. October can be tricky at the Epcot area resorts. November is usually pretty easy. However, you need sufficient trade power---values have ranged from 39 to 52 for studios in late spring to 2BRs in peak summer.

Caveat: if your MIL's resort is in Orlando, you are blocked from any Orlando DVC resorts.

Yup, I agree......If DVC doesn't work out, take a look at Bonnet Creek. It's much more affordable, and offers free shuttles, and other nice perks. Also, easier to get through RCI than DVC. Although, April & May are most likely gone there, too.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Her resort is in Brigantine, NJ (blah!). I'll check out Bonnet Creek. I have always stayed in Disney resorts and am so nervous that a non-disney would take away from the "magic", but maybe I should keep an open mind! I call RCI and they said they had a cancellation at Animal Kingdom for TOMORROW for 10 points. I wish i could swing that one!

If it's a larger unit and prime summer week you should get decent TPU for that deposit.

Its the third week in May...I got 21 for my deposit this time. But I have 16 in the bank from last year so I was hoping to find a studio off-season at DVC...I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Even if you combine, 37 is pushing it for a studio and might not be enough. And, frankly, I don't think it's worth spending 37 trade power credits for a glorified hotel room---and that's all a DVC studio is. It's almost certainly not enough for a 1BR any time of year, unless trade power gets adjusted again.

I've stayed at OKW, VWL, BWV, and Bonnet. All things being equal, I thought the Bonnet experience was very comparable to OKW, and in fact Bonnet is an easier commute to many Disney destinations---the OKW bus often drives right by the Bonnet entrance going to and fro. We liked the more spread-out vibe at OKW a little more, but we liked the pools and other recreation at Bonnet more.

I admit that we liked VWL and BWV a little better overall, but that's mostly due to location, and the fact that we were no where near occupancy (those units are small). We like them a little better, not significantly-more-expensive better.

Yeah know.....after YEARS of only staying at Disney Delux or DVC we made the switch into Orlando off site - typically at Marriott TSs. Yeah know what.....we love it! Better/larger rooms. Great Ammenities. I didn't think I would like....but we do. So, give it a try...ya never know!
