  • RCI website help

    hello everyone,

new user and fairly new TS owner. Last January I booked 3 weeks of vacations with RCI to cover all of my families 2011 vacations.

I had no use for RCI until now, all my travel needs were met and rarely went to the website. I'm beginning to plan my 2012 trips and running into problems. last years all the different ways of booking and searching were all separated and it was very easy to find what you're looking for.

now it looks like everything is thrown together and just a cluster pile!

I get error messages when searching, fees aren't correct, and it says there are no available units at my home resort a year from now!

I called RCI and was told "its an issue they have with internet explorer and they're working on it with Microsoft". "Unfortunately I have to book through her because of the IE error" I then advised her I've tried their website using chrome, foxfire, and IE on both 32 bit and 64 bit machines and said its not an IE issue but a problem on her end. She must of had cotton in her ears because she again repeated her "They have with internet explorer and they're working on it with Microsoft. Unfortunately I have to book through her because of the IE error" Speech. (Not paying higher fees to book through an agent.)

Is anyone else having issues searching and booking?

Rarjr - In Sept 2011 before booking our first RCI vacation, no available units were appearing either on the site using Firefox. Shell Vacations connected me to the RCI IT tech and she said IE works better than Firefox, however she walked me through a step by step process to get IE to work. I'm not sure exactly what she had me click but it worked. You may be talking to the wrong RCI rep. I would keep trying until you speak with an IT tech at RCI. Obviously there's way more freedom when you can access the site and book the resorts yourself. Sorry I couldn't provide more details. I had way more fun shopping on RCI than I'm having on Interval.

This is what they had me do last week for IE9. When you get to the site, hit PF12. This will generate a section on the lower part of the page. Find the 'browser mode' on the top line of the new section and select IE 7. The page will refresh and then you should be able to continue with better success. That won't help with your other browsers but maybe it will do some good with IE9 (assuming you are using that version of IE of course).

I just tried Safari 5.1.1 and it seemed to work ok, too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't aware of the purpose of that function key. Your suggest is a good one.

I'm running IE9 and at times I have incompatibility problems. When I'm on RCI I haven't noticed an incompatibility issue. However, I did have problems with Interval Intl. I could not reliably use their calendar when doing Exchange searches and I could not access and maneuver through their documents library. Their tech support couldn't help. But I stumbled upon the "tools" tab at the top of the page and found that after I switched to "Compatibility Mode" that things worked right. I.I. later admitted that they have a problem and that they're working on it.

So, I find it absolutely fascinating that both RCI and II appear to have some compatibility issues. From what I've read, both could benefit from doing a lot more QA testing and testing on the platforms that the customers are using.

BTW, on I.I. this is going on the 3rd week that I have been unable to use their Community social media function. A month ago I lost my screen name due to another error that snuck through their QA testing. I understood that it affected thousands of people. They are still working on the problem. I really shouldn't be too harsh with their QA tester - - it is a challenging job function that usually employs more than one person and in all fairness - - the QA fellow's seeing-eye dog was sick when he did the testing. (Just kidding....but I couldn't help it).

I use a number of browsers, all of which fail sometimes in using RCI.

I run, Safari, Explorer, Opera, Chrome and K-Meleon.

Chrome seems to work more than the others for RCI, but it is still subject to failure and I just cycle through the others. Usually one works. RCI could use a major upgrade in their computer systems.

I was still amazed to see no available units at my home resort for Jan 2013. I also noticed it was listing my exchange fees at $189 for available ones in Feb 2013. RCI home resort units booked online are listed at $40 in the fees guide. I finally had enough and called RCI again today, mainly to express my disappoint with the new search and inventory system.

The agent said he could help search for me. Well of course he found 4 units for the dates I requested!! I asked why he was able to find these and he told me the system has an issue called "ghost inventory" and not everything is transferred to the website inventory correctly. He said agents have access to the old system and they prefer to use it. "Old faithful" as they call it.

He also said that the website wasn't recognizing where my home resort was, but he did see it on his side. He offered to book my rooms at the $50 call center exchange fee rate but couldn't do the $40 fee because it wasn't booked through the website.....LOL. I guess I'm suppose to book invisible units!

I laughed and gave up, the system wasn't broken..........I guess they felt the need to break it!

If you have a problem with a guide charging you fees for things you can't book yourself bc the website is broken, call back and hit the prompt for Web Support or Web Tech Support - they can waive the call center fee for bugs.
