For instance, an 30-year-old unit at Orange Lake in the West Village gets any where from a ridiculous 25 to a hilarious 58. There are almost always units available, except for maybe Week 52.

    No $#!+ Sherlock!!! 58!!!

That's for something that won't get a buck on ebay.

    & 11 gets 57% of the exchanges.

That's awfully close to sleeping with the boss.

At the same time, a SW FL resort that is never, ever available in Snowbird Season any more, only gets 24-38.

NE FL in Snowbird Season gets 16. 25 in summer.

Like C says, it stands supply and demand on its head.

From some of the numbers out there in RCI's numbers game, it seems more likely that they base values on a monkey throwing darts at at dart board than on supply and demand. It clearly shows that partial transparency is next to useless. If they are going to claim to be transparent, they need to be fully transparents, specifically as to how they conjure up their numbers.

How do they calculate your trading power? Is it done by them or based on demand? I guess on the surface it would be nice to know a numeric value for trading power. However, based on your example I see a lot more pitfalls!

Some of us can tell you from experience and intuition what it will take to get what you might want. Or, we can look and see if one is available, and what they want for it.

Are you at OLCC? Or one of the ones they have bought?

I came back to add that I have 20-some years experience with OLCC, and have been there enough, and heard them enough, to know that if it wasn't for OLCC, there would be no RCI.

I've got a float week at The Resort on Cocoa Beach I might want to exchange. Any ideas?

                  You've figured it out.

The bad news is that the decent exchanges you used to get have more than doubled in price. Also, as owners of the better deposits realized there no longer are better exchanges to be had, those better deposits became even fewer. That will make the few that are even more expensive.

The good news is that you can now get two, or more, crappy exchanges for the same one maintenance fee, plus two, or more, exchange fees.

So, if you just ignore what you used to be able to do, or, if you just look at numbers and disregard quality, you are now much better off.

Many longtime, loyal customers have reported just what you have. A few unsympathetic folks have kicked sand in their faces, I guess because they have not played out in their minds the end result, that we are all in this together, and each one who leaves makes it worse for everyone.

If RCI would lower the exchange fee (instead of raising it), I might take a few more of the off-season weeks to use for weekend getaways.

That is part of RCI's shell game. The better weeks do not usually make it online, and RCI is not likely going to let you trade in for the same number of points some poor sap may have gotten when the deposited it. One of the differences between RCI Points and its newer Points Lite (aka ''Weeks'') is that in regular points they give you the values of everything and the points given for deposit are the same number as those required for exchange into the same week.

BTW, my own US summer beach week is rented for a nice profit. Why would I even consider playing RCI roulette with it when it rents nicely? Unfortunately, SFX does not take that resort, but with rentals I have a great alternative to RCI.

I agree, these on going searches really screw it up for the regular guy like me who just wants to be on an east coast beach and doesn't care where as long as its north of Georgia...i much prefer to 'browse' for where i'd like to stay instead of having to pre-order it

Well that's your problem Ride, come to FL and you'll have NOooooo problem getting something right smack dab on the sand. I've got 6 weeks already reserved this year. 4 of them were RCI exchanges.

You can set up a search for something like this: Region NE US and Canada; Sub-Region East Coast Area Maine to Georgia. That might include places like New Bern NC (which I don't consider coastal), but there might be other pre-defined areas that mostly focus on what you are looking for.

You can browse the directory and come up with a list of acceptable places and start a search with that list. Then call them and tell them you want any match to be a hold instead of the instant confirmation that normally occurs when you give specific resorts. If you check every day, you will have the ability to yes or no while still only getting matches that you are interested in. If you are really diligent, you can use the deposit calculator to get a general idea of the tpu's needed to get one of those resorts during the time you want to go.

For prime summer beach weeks, though, it is realistic to expect the new RCI to let someone trade in for anything close to the number of points lite they gave to the poor sap depositing the week?
