I agree. Whoever switched my fixed week to RCI points before it was mine paid thousands of dollars. So, what do I get as the new owner? I get to pay $124. per year to RCI, but if I exchange back to my home week, I get to do that for no charge! Such a deal. And, if I want to book my home resort during a different week, it only costs $40. However, I get 46,500 for my week, but I have never seen a week at the same resort for under 50K.

Sure, I can use my points to trade to some other crappy resort for 3 weeks each year at $189. per trade. I can't imagine what motivated the previous owner to switch to points. No wonder they sold it to a PCC.

    • In spite of your many threads supporting RCI, what is shown by Jim's poll is that among knowledgable timesharers on this board, who are overwhemingly red week owners, it is a 50/50 proposition between wimmers and losers. And that does not begin to count the blue week owners who have almost univerally been hurt. Few blue week owners participate in any of the timeshare boards and so are underrepresented in those polls. Add them to the 50/50 and it tilts heavily to the loser category.

And being able to see that you are being screwed by looking at the deposit calculator is a bit like having a choice between being shot or hung.

RCI has made planning for timeshare exchange a huge guessing game. One can look at the deposit calculator and see how things stand right now, but then you have to stop and guess when RCI's next big change will come, and whether you will win or lose in that one. RCI timeshare exchanging used to be stable, and with a little experience you knew the range of what you could and could not trade for. Knowing an exact number was not necessary unless you were a newbie. Now, you hold your breath for RCI's next move to arbitrarily put its thumb on the scales. My guess is that the next big earthquake will come when RCI merges Points and Points Lite which is probably several years off, but there will likely be smaller quakes in the mean time, and if you happen to be at ground zero you could lose big there, too.

I am tired of RCI's shell game and am doing fine exchanging elsewhere. RCI is still good for the occaisional cheap rental, but when my cheap but long RCI SA membership finally expires, I will not bother to renew it.

That answer is simple - a lying points conversion sales weasel.

In talking with a manager of a German resort I traded into which is in RCI Points, they prohibited the use of the conversion sales weasels and required that they review any mail sent by RCI to their owners about RCI Points so that it was not overhyped. As a result the number who switched ot RCI Points was in the single digits (not in percentage, but in actual numbers). She also told me that at least half of those had since mentioned that they decided they had made a bad mistake in doing so.

        • Of course that whole conversion to Points debacle was a whole nuther topic. It was not like you could just say, "Yeah, I'll do that."

          • [QUOTE=JLB;489495]While I was out canoeing my dog around the canals and creek, it occured to me that disclosure is only, or nearly only, of value to those who already own and are already familiar with timesharing.

JLB, you might just be spending to much time thinking about timeshares....
