Tips for a new RCI points user??

Hey All -

So I've got everything all set up for my points account and have actually booked my first exchange (an early sept week at the Wyndham Wharf in Newport RI). My question is - any pointers for how to get the good exchanges? Is there a specific time I should try booking (looks like maybe 10 months out)? Is there a time of day that is better? Is it just a matter of checking in every day?

I've tried playing around with an ongoing search but I'm seeing stuff that match my request show up online without ever getting a call from RCI to say that its available.

Anything you care to share would be greatly appreciated!!!!

If you want to stay at a points resort and you know the date you want to check-in, stay up until midnight in the eastern timezone exactly 300 days from your date and reserve it. I have done that 3 times, twice for holiday reservations and I got what I wanted all 3 times. For non-points resort reservations, start a search 2 years out, if possible, and check up on it every day in case it doesn't match when it should. It sounds crazy to search two years away but if you want something hard to get like summer in Ireland, it's best to be first in line.
