  • What would you combine?

So I've got a bunch of deposit credits left over. Not sure if they are worth combining or not.

What do you guys think? I am planning on doing two more deposits in August. I want to combine but don't want to pay for multiple combines if I don't have to. I'm thinking to leave that 4 all alone since that seems to be the lowest number I can get something last minute with and not bother combining the 1,2,3's. How do you guys do your combining? I vaguely remember that you can combine up to 10 credits. Am I right on that?

I don't have any ongoing searches and have never done one yet but was thinking that now I will probably have to to get DVC for next year since the deposits have dried up.

    Any suggestions?

You can combine as many TPU's as you want, as far as I know. If you're gonna combine, I'd definitely pick up all the small change, including the 4, maybe everything except the 2 latest worth 22 each, but that all depends on whether you want to extend them, how many searches and/or holds you might want do simultaneously, and how many TPU's you usually use per exchange.

At this point, combining will extend everything you have listed thru July 2014, so you don't lose any of your current window. The longer you wait to combine, the longer the window you'll have.

So many things expiring in 2014! I would wait till the end of 2013 to combine everything you have at that point...except the two CMVs that expire in August, but you should try to use them before then.

Or if you are going to be using all the small change, you could combine them when you're ready to commit to some particular exchange.

Once everything is combined, the use-by date is one year from the date of combination, right? Otherwise you could just glump everything together and shave off the parts you need....I have a bunch of little scraps, too, and I haven't had the energy to confront the whole project.

The online system only allows you to combine a max of 10 units at a time, otherwise you get an error message. I have talked with an RCI tech support guy who said that if I wanted to combine more than 10, then I should call in and they would consider splitting it into two larger combined deposits but only charge the one fee. He said this after suggesting combine them all into one super big TPU trader but I said if I do an ongoing search, it ties up the "biggie". I haven't tried to do this yet to see if that really is the case but I will doing it in the near future as I have a deposit ending soon.

Looking at your list, I would combine all the units other than the two 22 TPU units. The combination of the other seven deposits gives you a total of 59 which you could use for your ongoing DVC search. Given that you also do a lot of last trips, those two 22 point deposits should be able to meet your exchange needs until you add more deposits and need to combine again.

I see that the online combining tool tells you when your combo would expire. Is it two years from the date you combine? Not sure....

That's good to know. I thought there was a limit. I guess calling in is worth while.

Good to know you can do two combines on the phone for one fee.

Yeah they expire in 2014 but I'll probably use them all up knowing me.

Yes it is two years from the combine date but from what I understand you can keep depositing and combining indefinitely, unless of course RCI changes the rules and we all know how that goes.

I'm kinda trying to strategize to just do one combine a year and that way I'd always be extending indefinitely. I pretty much burn thru my deposits in RCI. Can't say the same with II or the other companies but for some reason I can't seem to keep much in RCI. I need to exercise more self control.

A walrus and an elephant sounds interesting. If anything funny shows up you can hide it in the trunk.

A few months ago, RCI had a targeted promotion whereby you got a free combine if you made a deposit by x date, think it was May 31. It was incentive enough for me, I had something I'd been planning to deposit elsewhere. You didn't have to include the new deposit in the combination if you didn't want to. No predicting whether they'll do that again, of course.

You cannot combine any deposits that have an expiration date later than the combined deposits would have. You would not be able to combine the deposits that expire in Aug. 2014 until next month.

Pat, are you sure? Because I *think* I recently did that, with my last combine, and lost a bit of my window on at least one deposit.

It was like that when I tried to do it several months ago. Who knows, maybe RCI changed it. Things are always changing at RCI.

I kinda remember that but of course was so focused on depositing that I didn't even think about combining. Too many things to keep track of. Hopefully they'll run a special soon. Somebody please post if it they do.

I thought you could but then you'd be shorting yourself by the month. I'm pretty sure I've seen threads on combining that shorten the life but if you are depositing and combining yearly then this is probably a mute point.
I know I've got lots of weeks to deposit to come so I doubt I'll be letting anything expire.

I wish I had known about the free combine, as i did deposit with RCI and noone mentioned it to me.
as far as chris's question, the first deposit expires in dec, i would wait til then and then combine all the small ones and that extends them for two years. meanwhile you will be making lots of exchanges and probably have other deposit credits, and you may grab something with the small deposits too.

I think it was a targeted promotion. Not everyone was notified. You had to combine deposits and then use the combined deposit on an exchange. I don't think you could make an exchange and then combine your left overs. I think if you weren't notified but called you could take advantage of it. You also had to pay the call in rate. [Oops per Laurie's post you didn't need to combine your deposit but I thought you did also have to make an exchange at the same time]

RCI also has been having targeted promotions that you would not be eligible for if you were not notified.
