  • RCI cancels my vacation, 4 wks away, but comes through in the end

Ugh, I don't know what to do.... I had booked a 2 bdrm at Wyndham La Belle Maison, months ago. I received a call today from RCI claiming that the hotel was damaged from hurricane Issac.

Sad thing is that I don't even believe them.....Even if true, shouldn't I have been notified long ago? Why wait till 4 wks to check in to tell me, opposed to giving me as much time as possible to find a new location?

Not sure what to do know. We have friends from Florida joining us, and everyone already has their plane tickets.

I also have reservations thru II for the Quarter House, which seems to be fine. I', going to call II just to make sure, at this point.

    Not sure what to do?

When others have reported similar problems, they also have had an RCI agent assigned to their case. They usually manage to find something acceptable.

      or not

One is not a true RCI member if they have not had at least one Confirmation come undone.

FWIW, it was over one of those that I came to know my Inside Guy several years later.

      Hi, guy.

I assume you are still lurking.

Oh yeah . . . You told me where to go in SW FL, because your folks own there, and now we have a house there, so don't need to go there.

      Funny, huh?!

I would call the resort and ask them about the condition of the rooms.

Problem is that I had a 2 bdrm, and RCI doesn't seem to have any, at the moment. I didn't get the feeling that they were going to be able to come with a 2 bdrm, either....I'm willing to take 2 -1 bdrms, so we'll see if they can find anything.

I just truly think it stinks that I was not notified as soon as the damage took place. Why wait till today? I could have been looking in II, and placed various request, etc.

Also, I'm dealing with my DD & friends, that are now totally freaking out. Ugh! One couple just purchased their plane tickets last week. If I had known, they would not have purchased the tickets.

That is so frustrating and upsetting! RCI has special ops that help with this stuff. Usually even more last minute. See if you can get into Bluegreen Club La Pension - rooms are smaller than Belle Maison but it's very close to Quarter House. There are also quite a few perfectly fine hotels on Canal right near QH - Marriott, JW Marriott, the Ritz (reasonable rates for The Ritz down there).

Just spoke to II and thankfully there doesn't seem to be any problem at the Quarter House, so my other reservations are intact.

They don't have any other units, anywhere available for my dates, tho. Too late to put in an ongoing request, so I'll keep searching, and calling. Oy!

Yup, I'm beyond frustrating. RCI is looking for me, so I guess that I have to pray that they come up with something. They might have a 1 bdrm at the Quarter House, but I won't know for sure until tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'll start looking into other options.

RCI hasn't offered you a spec ops person to find something for you?

There have been past cases of RCI blowing smoke on claims of resort damage. Have you called the resort? Of course, being under similar ownership, they well be coordinating their stories. While you are in town at the other resort, I would at least go by and make an onsite inspection to see if they are telling the truth.

Since RCI doens't give you the unit number anymore, if some units are OK and others not, then there is no way to tell if RCI arbitrary bumped you instead of someone else, like maybe someone paying cash for a rental.

I'm not sure if the person who called me was a "spec ops" person. She didn't make that clear........I was quite annoyed at the time and wound up being transferred to someone else. He told me that the woman I had first spoken to would get back to me tomorrow.

I've only had it done once. I confirmed a 2BR at Powhatan, and got a call a week later telling me that the owner insisted it be deposited as a single 4BR LO, rather than 2 2BRs, and so would I mind taking the 4BR instead?

As you might guess, I told her that I would not mind. We had a great time inviting some old friends to join us that we had not seen in years.

I called La Bella Maison direct and was told that only a few rooms were out, and that no damage was done to the resort itself. I got the impression that if there was truly damage done, it wasn't much.......I also checked tripadvisors, and no mention of any damage from people who have just retuned. No mention of any damage on the Whyndam or RCI site, or anywhere online that I can find.

And from frustrated to furious in one easy phone call. Hopefully RCI will make it right. It's possible that the front desk has been coached to minimize damage for concerned owners, but still. If they had to bump just a few people, I'll bet they went with exchangers first.

Yup....Especially ones that had 2 bdrm reservations for Halloween week.

I understand that its very difficult to get a 2 bdrm there.
