I'm not sure, but I think they were never really available.
If you try to put one on hold you will get a message that you are unable to book it at this time, or that the week is no longer available.

There is a belief that these units were deposited but for some reason are lagging behind in synchronization with the booked inventory.
Could possibly be if you believe the RCI haters, that this inventory was deposited and then moved to the rental pool.
I have heard others say that they actually did book the unit, so it was there, but it's ghost is lagging behind instead of showing as taken.
Of course RCI could just be leaving that good stuff behind to show us what we missed.
