Other way around -- we were strongly opposed to TS ownership for years. Hubby's boss tried to convince him of the appeal for nearly a decade, but we didn't like the vacationing for a week thing, or the idea of having to either go to the same place every year or trade through RCI. The "thrill of the hunt" never interested us. We love having points because we have a wide selection of possibilities with good odds of getting any of them, without the worries of renting but still paying way less than we would for a hotel.
When we bought into a points system, hubby's boss was horrified. He thinks points systems are The Evil.
Yep. I'd like to get to SW Florida someday, but what we value is the variety.
Congrats!
Points are my favorite too although I have become fonder lately of weeks exchanges thanks to II.
I will ride that gravy train into the station for as long as the ride lasts.
Well if you didn't bring so much of your endless negativity here everyday maybe I wouldn't feel the need to balance your posts for the occasional newbie who tries to join in.
You love playing the poor little victim of the evil one and it is sooooooo old already.
Why cant you accept the fact that there is still good value for many and let it be?
Even you admit that one of your hated evil timeshares has value as a golf club membership.
You can't block a moderator, even one who repeatedly violates the sites rules against personal criticism.
Well I am glad to see that you can hear me.
You take it as personal criticism cause you love to play the victim card with me but I fail to see what all your endless negativity brings to this community. Its obvious that you no longer enjoy travelling to anywhere but SW Florida. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Its obvious that that is where you belong as you are winding down your life. Good for you.
Would it hurt you any to help the site move to the top of google with something other than negativity so you don't scare off new members?
I think you owe it to Frank. He's been good to all of us but especially to you.
It wouldn't hurt to think of others for a change.
JLB I am not recommending this for anyone just stating what is working for me as I love timesharing.
We currently own 13 weeks and this past year I bought one week and sold several all at a nice profit (obviously I bought those re-sale). Of the 13 weeks I usually rent out 6-8 weeks for enough of a profit to pay for all 13 weeks maintenance fees. So each year I get about 6-8 weeks of free vacations in great resorts with full kitchens in studio through two BR units. Almost all of my vacations are to high end timeshares in great locations such as the Caribbean islands, Mexico, Europe, Hawaii and many times I combine my timeshare trips with airlines tickets paid with frequent flyer miles. I do not travel during off season and use my timeshares for getting away from NY during cold winter months or for family vacations like our annual Florida trip during spring break when my grandkids are out of school.
I have several friends who own a Florida home and they love it but many no longer go anywhere else and several just use them for about 6 weeks a year and pay for the entire year. In my opinion I go to much better places around the world and usually have as much room as they have in their two BR condos in Florida.
I also know what I am doing in order to maximize my timeshare usage for little or no expense and it works great for me even if it doesn't work for others. I still love the hunt as I am still successful at it.
Once I can no longer make it work for me I can definetly sell most of my weeks for a profit as I have sold most weeks that I have bought in the past. I have been timesharing since 1992 and so far I have only had one timeshare that I no longer wanted that I gave back to the management company at no cost to me but I got tremendous value from it with it in trades for about 8 years.
I do own about 4 timeshares that have no value for sales purposes but I still use them successfully for trading so the thrill of the hunt continues for me.

Feel free to contact me by PM, for the purpose of selling five our six weeks.
It sure is a pretty day here at the lake. It was yesterday, too, and golf with the guys was great.

JLB this makes no sense!!! Why would I want to contact you to sell my weeks as you have indicated it doesn't work for you but it certainly does work for me.
Glad you are enjoying your vacation home as do several of my friends which works for them as well. just not something I have any interest in.

failure to communicate, as is common on the internet
I was asking you to PM with information regarding how/where you are able to sell so easily
not to sell them for me

Yeah, if we went more often I might be going that route myself. Right now we have more options than we have time to make use of, so I'm not very motivated to see if that works for us. Hubby frowns on my vacationing without him (although he's okay with me visiting my parents alone ). We used to go a lot on weekends but the last few years we've had too much going on; I think that's part of the reason most of the kids wanted to do a Staycation this year. So many localish things we've talked about doing (or re-doing) and haven't gotten to!

As you should know there is no easy way to sell timeshare and my guess is that about 90% have zero or no real value. My success in selling timeshare has very little to do with how and where I sell my weeks. I now only purchase timeshares that I can get for a price that I know that I can sell for a profit. These timeshares must also have an excellent rental value as sometimes I will rent them out for 3-5 years at a profit and wait for the right price before selling. As others have stated, who do the same thing here or over yonder you need to find a niche market and that information I will not share.
In any event I only mentioned my selling and renting of timeshares as part of this post since it adds tremendous value to my timeshare vacations which as I said my net cost is about zero for stays in great timeshares, as it covers my maintenance fees for all 13 weeks.
The main focus of my reponse is that for me the thrill of the hunt is still there and I am still getting great timeshare vacations.

Understood.
There has always been a niche that doesn't apply to timesharing in general, or to those who are considering buying into the majority of resorts.
It's good to point that out, that there is a very-limited number of timeshares that make $en$e.
For instance, any of the resorts that are no longer available during Snowbird season in SW FL.
It does not apply to the majority, which should not be purchased unless there is an exit strategy in writing.

Completely agree except for me the thrill of the hunt is still there and if you are flexible ( and I still look for prime time and not interested in "mud season" or off season weeks) you can still get great timeshare vacations. It still works for me and as long as I can get them I will continue with timeshare vacations rather than buying a vacation home.
My exit strategy is simple I can still sell at least 8-9 weeks that I own at a profit. If I can't sell, rent or trade any of my weeks I have, no problem using what I own in prime locations and prime seasons. I have never bought anything just for trading purposes and worst case scenario would go to my resorts for a vacation.
