  • Presentation; Wyndham Rewards and RCI allowing rental of exchanged weeks

I know it once was that 'you cannot receive compensation of any kind for an RCI exchange'.

Yesterday, at an Information Presentation, the empression was put out that RCI exchanges may be one advantage of using Wyndham points.
    Rather than securing Wyndham reservations,
roll Wyndham points into the RCI timeshare "bank" and pay RCI for reservations. The point was to illustrate how one might obtain a greater number of timeshare weeks from the amount of Wyndham points owned rather than buying more points. I expressed that more vacations can be obtained at a larger variety of resorts rather than sticking with the limited Wyndham availability.

I also expressed that I lose Renting out Timeshares by using RCI. I was told that RCI was not objecting to renting out exchanged resorts. I didn't argue, but I don't believe that.

I got into a discussion regarding using the Wyndham Rewards (VISA card) points for offsetting my maintenance fees. I believe more benefit can be obtained by using frequent flyer miles (airline master card).

They lied. These are the terms that come on every RCI guest cert. Notice #3 and #7. I bolded 3 they bolded #7. So anyone you "rent" to and send a guest cert gets something in writing saying that they will not be responsible for any damage caused to the unit and can take what they want.

    Additional Information:
    1. By using this guest certificate you agree to be bound by the same terms and conditions which apply to the RCI subscribing member who requested this guest certificate on your behalf.
    2. This guest certificate is non-transferable.
    3. The member who requested this guest certificate will be responsible for the payment of any damages caused by the guest while staying in the vacation unit and for the replacement of any missing items.
    4. The user of this guest certificate is subject to any additional conditions or limitations which may be imposed by the resort.
    5. Redeemer must be 21 years of age or older. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by parent, relative or guardian age 25 or older. Certain other age restrictions may apply.
    6. Additional people may travel with the guest certificate recipient provided that the total number of persons does not exceed the maximum occupancy limit listed on this guest certificate.
    7. Guest certificates are made available by RCI only for personal non-commercial use, and the imposition of any fee or charge by anyone other than RCI for providing a guest certificate or the vacation confirmation is strictly prohibited.
And really Wyndham sales have been using this line for a long time. It was more plausable when you could get RCI reservations for 28,000 not the 100,000 plus points it takes now plus the $199 exchange fee plus the $59 guest cert.

This is a lie - you can lose your RCI account and all the exchanges in it if you are 'caught' by RCI renting out your exchange week.

I would send an email to Wyndham Corporate and tell them their sales staff are lying at the presentations.

As Theo pointed out, an exchange which someone obtained and is now trying to rent out for personal profit might very well have been exactly what some other depositing member would have very much wanted to obtain and actually use.

... once you choose to deposit what you actually own with RCI or II, you clearly don't own ... that (non-owned) week acquired by exchange is quite simplynot yours to rent out. That's all very clearly stated in print within RCI and II terms and conditions of membership.
