  • The 45 day window revisited

This is entertaining and I hope my observations are true.

Some of us creaky old timers will remember something called the 45 day window. This was the timeframe prior to check-in date when RCI would reduce trading power for unit still available or units that were cancelled and thrown back. At that time, Slimey Slough, Arid Acres and all our wonderful "mistakes" as newbies could pick up wonderful exchanges.

During the years that window of opportunity shrank until it really had become a 14 day window. BTW I do love the "no hold" in this timeframe that RCI has instituted. It really gives everyone a fair crack at some great stuff.

I haven't had much personal time to dedicate to searching. I am blessed that my life is so full. From what I have seen this week it appears that the 45 day window may be alive and well or at least breathing. I have seen some great prices on fourth of July weeks. OK they aren't the brass ring you were hoping for but decent prices at short notice at places you can generally drive to or get to.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Hey! Who are you calling "creaky"?

I haven't done a lot of searching lately. I don't like the look/feel of the new and "improved" RCI website. Sounds like I need to start paying more attention.

Thanks again Lawren for all that you do for us on this site.

I started a weeks ongoing search with only 14 tpus available back when they had the 'start a search for free' promotion. I am searching the San Diego area. No hits in the 45 or 14 day window so far searching from 5/3 to 6/30. I guess 14 is too low for that area.

I heard someone was speaking my language and dissing my resort(s).

Funny, though, I can still make the system work, somewhat, like the 14 is posted for Snowbird Season 2016, but that really is not the issue any longer.

There is no hard and fast cut off date to reduce in either weeks or points. The closest remnant is in RCI points at 30 days or less a weeks resort (or even a points resort as long as it was from a deposit on the weeks side of things with a $209 exchange fee) and the week has a tpu value of 10 or less (sometimes even 11) then it will be reduced down to 6500-9000 rci points. If RCI thinks it will get taken at a higher tpu then it won't reduce it even a few days before check in.

Funny thing is sometimes weeks inventory is loaded into the points side an hour or so earlier than the weeks side. A few days ago a 1 am, I saw a Wyndham National Harbor 2 br in RCI points for check in either May 24 or May 30. I think it was about 160,000 RCI points (not wyndham points). It sat there the whole hour. It became available with a weeks log in side at 2am for 13 tpu's and in less than a minute it was taken.

Meant to say I posted, not is posted.

New because of faux points, is their ability to slash what it takes to get an exchange, which they do frequently, like right now, on a wholesale basis. Even Slimey Slough can regularly get multiple other Slimey Slough-like places for one deposit.

Here's Orlando right now for 10 and under: 51 (2812 available units)

Here's Branson: 29 (2122 available units) And that includes 39 at Big Cedar

My take is that today's RCI is desperate to get rid of their inventory, to make a buck, regardless of what it takes.
