I've had a few cancellations and most have been handled poorly - no call or email, I usually found out by seeing the thing cancelled in my account. I'd eventually receive a follow-up mailing maybe a month after-the-fact. In 1 case I specifically asked for my cancelled exchange to be replaced with one of their rental weeks I saw online, and was denied the request. I never received an acceptable replacement twice, including that time. It really depends on the specialist you're assigned - some work hard and seem more knowledgeable and resourceful, and perhaps have more discretion for whatever reason - and some really don't, and aren't.

For balance, when they overbooked the Weston resorts the last big hurricane season, they tried to reach us at OLCC because we had two units at Bonita Beach the next week. Because DW had said we could not take another OLCC tour unless I told them her brother and I were a couple, I did not check the blinking light until late the night before we were checking out . . . .too late to reach anyone at the emergency number at RCI.

I called them the next morning, while we were driving to Bonita Beach, and got the lady at the next desk. If it had not already been taken care of, she said we could have a two bedroom at Vanderbilt Beach Club, and two free exchanges for the following January if they could have our two 1-bedroom units.

          Good deal.

When the lady at the next desk called us, she had already taken care of it.

So, not every phone call at OLCC is one you should not answer.

In comparison, when they canceled us they did not try to do anything, including finding us a room at a Wyndham hotel/motel.

Wow. I must be lucky cause RCI has only cancelled one exchange for me in 10 years and it was to manhattan club and it was a year in advance. I was trying to get two units and of course with their 1 in 4 crap they cancelled the other unit.
At least they did it right away though. No last minute surprises so far. Knock on wood.

Well, we've had one cancelled in 25-plus years, 140-plus exchanges, and never had a problem with 2 units the same week or 2 consecutive weeks.

But, then, when it comes to exchange restrictions, we're getting into a gray area. Always has been.

RCI is a great company, in the heritage/tradition of the great-company Cendant. Timeshare owners/subscribers got over that breach of faith/trust thing a long time ago. We are all more than happy to be able to get whatever is left over.

RCI just blew me away. It turns out that they gave me an extra year's worth of points since I sold my points timeshare in 2012. I thought this was the case last year when it happened but I checked with feedback@rci and they said my balance was correct. Not to mention the letters and emails that I get at least weekly telling me to use the 100k points that I have waiting for me.

Here's the part that blew me away. The guy that called me agreed it was a bad situation. They decided to put the exchange into my weeks account. No tpu's required. We can still go in July, we just can't make any more points reservations. Then we can cancel our accounts after our exchange.

                      Not too shabby.

                        Wow.
Glad they worked it out so nicely for you.

I had RCI fix a problem I had on the road once in the Berkshires on a Sunday afternoon.
Moved me to a better newer resort with a bigger unit and the resort manager took care of fixing it with RCI.
I was very grateful for the help and the upgrade in unit size.
I do think the employees at RCI try their best.
Luckily they seem to have a lot of leeway in pleasing the customer when something goes wrong as it should be.

Glad that it all worked out for you and that RCI acknowledged their culpability in the situation.
I have had 3 exchanges cancelled by RCI and in each case they went above and beyond to try and solve the situation.
