My biggest quip with RCI is the costs, yes they have more availability then the other exchange companies but don't think it warrants the significantly higher exchange costs.

Especially for us Canadians it really adds up.

It is becoming harder to justify using them on a straight weeks basis. Trading Power is through the roof for almost everything. 35-50+ for the areas I tend to be interested in even in "shoulder" seasons. Orlando for holiday weeks are regularly 45+. Meanwhile people depositing aren't given the amount of TPUs to exchange back into their own resort. A few lucky people get a great $/TPU rate but all the areas that used to see everything, like summer in Cape Cod or Ireland don't.

There are many ways to skin a cat but even using a porthole has become pricey. 13,000 points + exchange fee isn't chump change.

The exchange rate is currently at $209. The once wonderful insurance adds no value because it no longer redeems your exchange fee, just the point value invested.

They have priced themselves out of my pocketbook in many cases. What used to cost $500-$700 is now running $1000/week all in.

Still using it, but I'm also not the sort who worries over a few extra dollars here or there. Some of my favorite destinations have gotten expensive, TPU-wise, but for many of those I'm just finding "new favorites" instead.

I used to really like my RCI account and then I started reading some of JLB's posts about RCI - so now... Ha!

I like it OK, kinda, but not nearly as much as I used to. But it's still the best option of the various alternatives.

For the most part I love RCI. I can get just about anything I want now that they use TPU's. Just came back from the Royal islander Club La Plage in St. Maarten and we all loved it. This past summer I was able to get two 3 bdr units on HHI for the same week. I don't see any better options for me.

I put "love it," which is an exaggeration, but I'm basically happy with it. With my ownership I have an RCI membership whether I want one or not, which I initially resented, but since we've started actually using RCI, I'm good. The exchange fee means it rarely makes sense for us to exchange through RCI, but we have a small ownership and like to go off season, so the Extra Vacation and Last Call options are great for us.

We ever use RCI to get a DVC unit, then I'll love it.

                  I chose Love/Hate.

It gets me where I want to go but I am (as most are here) a savvy owner and have adjusted my ownerships as RCI evolved to get the most TPUs for my deposit.
Like Hobbitess, I have a RCI/Bluegreen account but thru the portal a 1BR unit is 11-13K points, 2BR 18-22K plus exchange fee….and I think that is too costly for an average exchange. But this ownership (for me) also includes access to RCI Points/Nightly Stay resorts which is a plus.

I do have a stand alone RCI account for TPU exchanges and that represents a much better value.

So there ya go - love/hate!

fees are too high, and when they told me they didn't have anything to do with all the maintenance issues I had at last timeshare, and basically misrepresented anothr when I went to, I have to say love/hate

Well, the 2 "love RCI" votes are mine.

Ditto! I have also come to really love II's E-trade option and wish that RCI offered something similar. Also II's platinum membership provides far more value to me.

I like RCI. For us RCI has always made the better and easier trades using our Worldmark. The costs are not really an issue for us when we get what we want. The costs, even though a bit higher, are still are very reasonable when compared to other reservation venues.

When I used one of my other timeshares for trading then it becomes a different story. So if you have a crappy trader your not going to do well in any of the exchange systems unless you just get lucky, imo.

Agreed. Plus you can't get any last minute trade deals using the BG points system, because BG reserves those for the "Traveler's Plus" club 3000 points thingie. But those are set by BG, so for me not a gripe about RCI. Which is why we generally go with Extra Vacations or Last Call.

                              To me love/hate because:
                              - I really do not like the high fees. Smells of a rip off
                              - Really DO like the tie-in to Disney
                              - Really like being able to save/borrow/bunch up points to get better units
                              - Really DON'T like how weeks are now broken up with 1-3 day intervals remaining spread out with gaps in between
I've been with RCI for 25+ years and would say overall I like them better than before.
