    This is a nice perk if you want an upgrade, if not just keep what you got and RCI
    gets no more money from you.
    II has been doing something like this for a while now with their E-plus program,
    but they let you search yourself for a prepaid re-trade fee.

    I've not used it yet but if I got a so so trade may decide to try it.
    Luckily I get pretty good trades first time around so haven't felt the need yet.

      Here’s how it works:

      When you book an exchange reservation online at the RCI website, a prompt will appear on the Confirmation Details page that says “Upgrades and Changes.” If you’re booking your exchange reservation on the phone, let the representative know you’re interested in a resort change or unit upgrade.

      Either way you book, you can specify up to five resorts at which you would like to stay within your destination region for a resort change.

      If one of the resorts you specified becomes available, RCI will automatically change your reservation and provide you with all the details. If you requested a unit upgrade, RCI will upgrade your reservation at your confirmed resort if a bigger unit becomes available*. Requests will be fulfilled three to 14 days in advance of check-in. If a resort change or unit upgrade is confirmed, the transaction fee is $49, which will be charged at the time the resort change or upgrade occurs.

        Thank you for your e-mail.

        RCI members now have the option to request an upgrade or change to
        upcoming reservations. If this option is chosen and an upgrade or
        change becomes available within 14 days of the check-in date, the
        confirmation will automatically be changed and an e-mail notification
        will be sent with the new confirmation information.

        The steps for how to set up this request online are as follows:

        • Sign in to your account, and hover over the "Home" Tab
        • Select the “My Vacation Plans” option
        • Select the tab labeled, “Confirmed”
        • Select the confirmation to which you wish to add the Upgrade & Change
        request
        • From the “Upgrades & Changes” section at the bottom, left of the page,
        select the button labeled “Create Request” and follow the steps to add
        your desired choices

        The cost to request an Upgrade & Change is $49.00. Members will need to
        provide payment information when the request is submitted and ensure the
        credit card information remains up-to-date through the confirmed travel
        date. The credit card will only be charged if the Upgrade or Change
        becomes available.
