We take out travel/cancellation insurance every year in case something would happen that we have to cancel our vacations last minute so we can recoup the maintenance fee.
We rent a timeshare through a private owner if we want to go on an additional vacation somewhere else.
If we want a short stay. like we are doing at Cold Spring Resort this year just for the holiday weekend, we again rent through a private owner or in this case this year through a travel booking site- I think we booked it through Expedia this time for a decent rate.
That's it. Simple.

for some reason, I paid for membership in RCI through 2023. I got rid of all timeshares in 2012 and am still working off my tpus. I have been combining and extending since 2013. dropping the combined to one year really hurt me. now i have two combined deposits left, one with 77 and one with 47. ongoing search with the older combined deposit. We don't go anywhere January, Feb, March, because we don't want to go into a cooler climate, and because we get so much company.
