  • Guest Certificates and Guest Pass

I'm in the midst of an interesting discussion with RCI.

It involves how it works if someone with a Guest Pass gets stuff for a guest. Can someone with a Guest Certificate need to get Guest Certificates themselves?

    Ever run across that?

So far I have confirmed that someone with a Guest Pass can confirm four units at the same time at a resort. Four is not a magic number, or a limit, but just the number my Guest needs for his group. The question concerns whether he would need to get a Guest Certificate for the three units he's not in.

Another scenario would be if he does not have a Guest Pass. If I (a subscriber) gets four units in his name, does each one need to have a Guest Certificate?

The question will have to be answered another time; RCI gave my new Guest Pass Holder all 4 units in his name.

In any event, not having to pay four $69 fees pays for the $149 Guest Pass, and then some, and he has five more years to get EVs and LCs with no Guest Certificate fee.

Ah! The positive without the negatives.

PS: Maybe we'll find out if he wants to get something for someone else. RCI did tell him that he has to be the one to call in . . . not even his wife can.

Now that it is done, I have asked feedback if they send anything to the Guest Pass holder to let them know how to use it. I sure don't.

In order to do business by phone they either have to be using the member's phone, or at least know it. Then, probably the member's RCI ID # too. If the member lets them search online, they have to use the online userid and password, and I don't know if they could actually purchase online because there's nothing there to designate Guest Pass rather than member.

My Guest Pass holder said it took and hour and a half to take care of business, but it was a rather complicated reservation.

I can imagine what a hotel bill for a week for 24 people would be!!!!!

          Hello,

          Thank you for your e-mail.

Someone with a Guest Pass will not have access online unless you provide them with your information. It is meant primarily for them to not have to pay for a Guest Certificate.

We do not have any special instructions for them. They are just allowed to call and the Guides will service them for Extra Vacations or Last Call vacations. They will not be allowed to use your deposited Weeks unless you specify it for a particular Deposit.

          Thank you for choosing RCI.

          Kind Regards,

I have another "cousin" asking about the five-year Guest Pass.

I think I probably have the answer, but I'm wondering if using it is dependent on the subscribed member remaining active.

I think I probably also have the answer, but I'm wondering if someone has a Guest Pass and the subscribing member does not renew, if RCI will allow them to become a subscribing member (without an underlying timeshare ownership).

No first hand experience but doesn't the guest pass just give a separate log on into the original account? That was my impression and if that is the case since no account there is nothing to hitch their guest status onto. Like deposits or confirmed exchanges that go poof when the account is not renewed the guest pass would go poof too.

The only way a Guest Pass holder would be able to log on to the subscribers account is if the member gave them their log-on information. The typical way a Guest Pass holder would use it (for Extra Vacations and Last Calls) would be to call in.

                      "Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept our apologies for the delay in our response.

Unfortunately the guest pass holder will not be able to utilize the account unless the member renews the account. The guest would have to own a timeshare in order to become a member.

                      Thank you for choosing RCI.

                      Kind Regards,
