  • RCI: Depositing two years out, does it cause a decrease in trade power?

I have a week for 2008 that I just deposited a few weeks ago. It has very little trading power compared to my 2007 week, the same exact week, the same usage and expiration dates for the week.

I called a VC and asked why this would be. She said the trade power is the same. It is definitely not the same. I see almost nothing with that week. I asked if our resort dropped in trade power. No, we are still Silver Crown. It is baffling.

What do the rest of you think about this one? Will my exchange power for the week improve over the next year? Has anyone experienced this phenomena?

As RCI certainly used to encourage owners to deposit early it would be of real concern to me if depositing early was actually detrimental. I like to deposit and book the exchange as early as possible in order to get holiday time booked at work.

      shopgirl,

I have no knowledge of RCI whatsoever......never had any timeshares with them.

I do find that theory interesting because I am in the process of reading the II book.....I am trying to learn the various rules, and hints in getting better trades, more exchange power, flexchange rules, etc.

II tells you that the earlier that you deposit your week, the more trading power it will get. Here is the exact quote:

"Deposit your resort week as early as possible-up to one year before it starts. An early deposit will improve your opportunity for exchange confirmation over weeks with comparable trading power. (If your resort participates in the Early Deposit program, you can deposit up to two years in advance of your week.)

Of course, it is very possible that RCI has a completely different system.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I remember reading a post on "the other board" that there was no difference in trading power depositing more than a 1 year out. 1 year was the magical mark. Depositing earlier only allowed you to start searching sooner but didn't give you more trade power. I'll see if I can find that thread.

Same week, different years, seem to trade the same.

I always spacebank my weeks 2 years out. If I still have a week from the spacebank I made from the year before, both years pull the same number of Resorts. This year I only have the the spacebank week for 2 years out.

I just looked for Florida on the Beach for 10 weeks beginning March 1, 2008. I pulled 54 Resorts with 9 GC Resorts.

Ah, yes, the good old days, when you could count on reliabilty.

The last four years for us have been a crapshoot. Three weeks at the same resort and I have no idea how they will trade until I deposit them. Some years the ski weeks are great; some years the summer week is great; and then there's the other years.

            Has the ice melted yet?

We had several days in the High 90's. Our summers are great in Wisconsin. 70's and 80's with sun shine. But, this July and part of August we had some 98's and late afternoon storms. It was even too Hot for tennis. The Ice is off the lakes by April.

I wonder if the week will increase in power as it sits there for a while. I remember one week that I thought was a little weak, then it became a good trader in the end. Perhaps that will be the case. If not, I guess I will just grab another Orlando week with it.

I have too many weeks to be doing that all the time. Plus, I want to take advantage of my points for some quickie vacations to Hawaii and Orlando. I guess I can always PFD and when I get lots of points that are ready to expire because I am only using them 9K at a time, I can buy airline tickets. That might just be crazy enough to work for me.

I wish I could figure out how Bruce and Boca do their thing with trades.

Why not give an example for an Exchange?

If you give an example for an exchange with both weeks, we then can post what we are seeing with the same exchange.

Perhaps your week 2 years out is normal and for some reason your 1 year out week is trading better than normal.

Cindy, could it be that most people haven't deposited their week yet so early and when they do, they will show up? I wished RCI had request first like II has.

No way will I give up our timeshare weeks not knowing what we may get in return. I would rather offer them to friends for what we pay in maintenance fees or try to advertise them here or in Redweek. We still haven't decided yet if we want to go to Hawaii next April or rent?

I wonder if SFX has request first? Haven't checked that out yet. If so, I may try them for the first time.

I think Cindy is saying that she sees exchange availability with her 2007 week but doesn't get the same list with the 2008 week, searching on the same date range.
I can accept that depositing 2 years ahead doesn't give any greater trading power than 1 year ahead, but this is suggesting that trading power for the 2 year ahead deposit is actual inferior.

I remember Carol C (I think) saying that sometimes a week has to 'age'.
That it will take a few days/weeks to mature to full trading power.

Let's see how your week trades in a couple of weeks.

I own 2 weeks at the same resort for the same week. Both week 51, same size. I had a situation a couple of years ago where I deposited one week 13 months ahead and the other 11 months. The one that I deposited first traded MUCH worse than the later week. No one at RCI could explain this phenomenon, other than to say, if the computer did it, it must be correct. We all know better. The trading power did not change over time.

Madge, over yonder, has stated many times that your TP is fixed at the time you deposit it. Your trade results may vary, however, because of the availability (and desirablilty) of what you are searching for. How's that for confusing.
