RCI Actually Owns the Domain name www.rcisucks.com!

I saw on another thread (I think it was here, not Over Yonder) a discussion of the domain name www.RCISucks.com

I can't find the thread now, though.

Someone on the thread said that RCI owned the name www.RCISucks.com and I assumed that was a joke. Well, it's not. I just looked it up in www.whois.com and sure enough, Cendant owns the rights to the domain name www.RCISucks.com:

I notice that the domain name www.iisucks.com and www.intervalsucks.com do not seem to be taken. I guess that is because Interval is a lot less worried about someone starting a website saying that they suck. My personal theory is that Interval is less worried because unlike RCI, they do not, in fact, suck. (Although I know that not everyone here has been happy with Interval.)

You are viewing this completely wrong. What this proves is that RCI will pay money to take anti-RCI sites off the internet. That is an opportunity.

I can come up with more options than RCI can afford.

Remember that RCI is likely a registered trademark or at a minimum is copyright protected. RCI may have got the domain transfered to them to prevent the previous owner from paying to litigare the use or the name RCI on their domain name.

Boca, good idea for a new business -- making up RCI hate sites and then having RCI pay you to close them down! However, given how hard it is just to reserve my own RCI Points home week (I have been trying now for a month), I'm not sure I can deal with RCI's lawyers without having a nervous breakdown.

Many companies will register "<theircompanyname>sucks".* (and similar domains) to prevent such sites from being used to smear them. RCI is just trying to thwart most of their unhappy customers from doing this, as they should. They sure have a lot of 'em!

An irate UK Sunterra owner already got Sunterra to compensate him for his claim this way by starting the SunTerror website. Part of the deal was that the site be closed down. Another group then started the SunTerrafied website and that one is still going. No matter how many domain names a company grabs, someone will always think of a new one to use.

One of the more creative such sites on a company is www.untied.com on United Airlines.
