  • Beware, RCI is the grinch!

...who stole my Christmas surprise! I had put a unit on hold last night, planning to organize a surprise trip for my DH as a Christmas present...I didn't want to confirm it until I made air arrangements using FF miles....but that d--n RCI started calling at 8:50 AM this morning to alert us that our unit was on hold...I KNEW THAT! My DH didn't....well, long story short, we are not taking that trip now! Thank YOU RCI ...your so-called "courtesy call" has junked my plans!

Note: The real reason for making that call is to get around the block that I have that forbids them to make any sales calls to us...they want us to depost our Aruba weeks (yeah, RIGHT, like that is going to happen!)..oh, yeah, and to make us an offer on renewing our membership!

So be warned, if you want to surprise someone, don't put a unit on hold as RCI will spoil that for you.

I hate getting those calls early in the morning. II does the same thing. This happened to me once as I was planing a getaway with my wife. II called and spoiled the fun.

I wouldn't stay home because the surprise element is gone unless DH doesn't want to go. I have had many intended surprises revealed but the fun was still there when carried out. Go and enjoy the vacation!

I sure thought so...and it is unfortuante, at least for us.

While I do see why they might be covering their butts by making phone calls, why don't they have a policy to wait until late in the day...I mean they started at 8:50 AM....that hold wasn't made but about 12 hours before! And in the case where someone is trying to arrange things, or suprise someone else, it is most intrusive and unwelcome.

Kay, you're most right, and in other instances there would be no question, but the timing of the call didn't allow me the luxury I needed to assure my DH there were FF tickets for the complete surprise....it's a longer story than worth telling, but the bottom line was that I wanted to alert folks here that RCI isn't going to help you keep something a surprise or help you out by giving you time to get your ducks in a row at your own pace. That is what really irked me about the entire thing. But I do agree, an early reveal doesn't have to change the fun....

The other thing is that when a person does an online hold, the whole point of the hold is just that...to take time to organize, decide....one is using the online service also to AVOID contact with those SALESpeople, er, Deposit Trollers, Extra Vacation Sellers, er, Membership RE-newers, er, what the heck are they supposed to be? oh, yeah, Vacation Guides....HA! They just used the hold as an excuse to make their pitches to us....ugh!

Consider changing your phone number for contact to your personal cell phone number. That way they can't spoil the surprise.

somerville, that is a terrific idea! I think I will see how I might be able to creatively get around them! That gives me hope for the next time I might spot a likely surprise! Thanks!
