I miss him too

I miss Bootleg too. I hope that he is well, and simply had to stop posting without even saying "goodbye" in order to keep his job.

FWIW, I was asked by email by someone at RCI if I knew who he is because of a thread OY where he and I had different opinions. That was quite some time ago. I would say at least three years. Perhaps around the Anon time.

It was when I mentioned that OY that I was accused of ratting him out. Before I even knew that discussion was going on, judgements had already been made and the gallows were being prepared for me. It seems like a lot of things happen in discussions before you even know the discussions are going on.

Sorta like my neighborhood, you don't find stuff out until after the secret meeting has been held, and then you get blamed for not being at the meeting.

But I am still chuckling.

Yeah, we should add a couple of other moderators as well.

1950Bing should be the general timesharing moderator.

Jimel should be the Timeshare Relief Moderator.

GinGin should be co-moderator of the OLCC forum.

Rii Stroman and GMAC Intl should co-moderate the upfront fee timeshare broker forum.

The Mayan Place ought to moderate the Mexico forum.

Perhaps I am way out of line here, but I am sensing in this thread a little of that double standard, that part-of-us or not-part-of-us inner clique sentiment which made things boil over in the summer of 2004.

Hopefully not, though, cuz that would be a shame.

Do I spot a bit of revisionist history here? Now my memory isn't all that good, and I don't save emails and threads like some do, but wasn't Jim upset with Boot for awhile there? Cause he (Jim) said Boot had discussed his (Jim's) account with another TUGger (I don't remember who or any other details)? Seems to me there was a discussion (started by Jim) of the lack of confidentiality on the board at the time. I dunno, perhaps that is where folks got the idea that Jim had ratted him out.

No revision being done on my part. I think we talked about it all on the BBS so some probably won't have email records. Then, maybe there were some emails.

How it actually went is that just out-of-the-blue bootleg posted something on TUG that showed that he had gone into my RCI account. It wasn't a conversation with another TUGger; he posted it on the BBS. I can't remember what it was about or why he did that, but I did not ask him to access our account for anything.

As you know, my real name, address, RCI account number, or any other ID information of that type was not available through TUG, so to see that he had been into our account meant that he had done a little bit of detective work. IG has said that he cannot identify me just by my email address, if you want to believe that.

Following that there was a discussion about the appropriateness of bootleg doing that. Prying eyes being what they are, I got an email from RCI. In it RCI apologized, and told me that accessing a customer's account for the purpose of posting to an Internet forum was a violation of RCI policy. They asked if I could do anything to help identify him.

I did not.

Bootleg and I exchanged emails after that, letting bygones be bygones. The fact that he continued on Internet forums for several more years should be sufficient evidence that I did not rat him out, as I have never ratted anyone out, although some have deserved it.

Speaking of emails, and Carolinian, and his long-running reputation as Head RCI Basher on TUG, I believe I could come up with some old emails where that topic was discussed.

Also, as you recall, since you and I both had a trading power problem in 2002, and we were both pursuing it with RCI at the same time, and keeping folks on TUG informed, when the resolution of my problem was not satisfactory to some who had been following it, and they got nasty on the BBS, you had to close the thread.

For whatever reason there seemed to be an unsavory element on TUG back then, one that turned ugly(er) if they thought you were up to something with RCI.

I have always respected everyone's right to hold bootleg as a cult folk hero, an urban legend, even though he did not have access to the information necessary to draw some of the conclusions he did. He had the ability to warm the cockles of your heart, someone from the other side speaking as he did.

Nope, I didn't find any emails about Bootleg. But I certainly found a lot on a lot of other topics.

Here is one of the mild ones, one that will likely not stir up any hornets' nests. It's about when you and I were working on the trading power problem:

For what it's worth my guy at RCI said they are working on your problem,
too. He said something like "you and Fern have come to our defense in the
past and we want to get this figured out for you." or something like that

Here is a portion of one from my guy:

A lot was going on then. It was a daily battle with SWSRN, the trading power issue, Inside Guy first came along about then, I was working with II to open up Orlando Getaways to Orlando owners who owned elsewhere, my dad was not doing well, passed away and all that mess started.

Not to mention trying to run our business and do all the things of normal living.

Well, I am not surprised. You seem to infer, by copying this email (which is what, about four years old?) that

• You and I were working together on "our" trading problems
• I had/deserved special attention from RCI for some reason (because of my "status" at TUG?

I had a week at Imperial Hawaii that didn't trade well. The previous year's had. I sent in an inquiry as to why, and was told. I didn't like the answer. I went back to the resort a few months later. My unit was horrid...sagging furniture, peeling rattan, dirty walls up to 3' from the floor, etc. Needless to say they've refurbished since then. I understood why the trading power had gone down then.

As for my status with the trading companies...I've never asked for or received anything special from any of them. I was responsible for getting II's and RCI's participation on TUG's boards. Craig Urbine volunteered when he worked at II, everyone knows that. With RCI I sent a blind email to somebody in charge there. They discussed it amongst themselves for days on end, as corporations do, then had a couple meetings, and then proposed Madge. I don't know her, nor any of the people I emailed inviting them. I helped set up the original policy for both boards, but that's the scope of my involvement.

As for RCI wanting to "do the right thing for me," how do you explain my losing a Paris exchange due to their error (which I was able to prove), and their special staff never being able to "make it right?"

I don't know why someone at RCI would make that statement. For your part, I assumed it was because of your work as TUG admin and, for me, because of the work that I and other TUG users had put into researching the trading power issue.

But, that is just me guessing.

PS: In this case it sounds like you are complaining because rose bushes have thorns.

But, we have digressed quite aways from why I am chuckling because Steve and bootleg are moderating the RCI forum.

So, it seems like it's time to run to Wal Mart and the Pizza Hut.

Fern, I remember very well how upset you were when you lost the Paris exchange, and that you tried everything to get it back.
