How fast does a cancellation reappear for exchange?

Someone asked this question on another forum and I too was curious as to the answer.

When one cancels an exchange reservation with RCI, how quickly does that exchange unit become available to exchange; how soon will you see it online?

I notice that many TSers announce they are going to cancel their RCI reservation and are willing to coordinate the time in order to allow another person to snatch it up.

Are there better times during the day to do this?

Will an ongoing search snatch before anyone can get it?

I can't speak for cancellations of confirmed weeks but to release something on hold and have someone else pick it up has been done successfully many times both on-line and by phone <as long as there isn't a pending- on-going search for the same resort and date sitting in the system. I have seen the releaser get the same week back a gazillion times for that reason. >.

I personally have seen the released week go back in 2 to 5 minutes. One I tried desperately to grab on a co-ordinated release and never saw it come back to the on-line data base.

So there are no guarantees.

If I had to place a bet on cancellations of a confirmed week, I would think it would follow the same process as hold releases.

This week, I released online an exchanged week that was on hold. Within a minute, that caused it to turn into an ongoing search (with the criteria with which I had found it the night before)! That's not what I wanted, so I cancelled that. One minute later, the original week showed up as available for online visible searches.

I tried to reply when you first posted but lost my Internet connection and lost my post.

I and two members from this forum did a catch and release with RCI a few months back while on a 3 way call. The rep claimed that they could not see it. So After a few hours and after I deposited a stronger week. I was able to pick it up but he did let go of the week hours before. I have done these catch and release many times before for friends. We were able to pick them up with in 3 Minutes of the release. The trading power were very much a like in all the cases.

Release of units on hold is nearly immediate, makes sense.

What about canceling a confirmed reservation outside of the grace period?

My initial response:

If I had to place a bet on cancellations of a confirmed week, I would think it would follow the same process as hold releases.

Stan, it just isn't done often enough under watchful eyes to make an informed decision on it.

I think that Lawren is right that generally will probably follow about the same turn around as a week on hold which is usually pretty fast, however that being said, it is still somewhat of a crapshoot in that with the RCI on line system there are no deffinates and you can never really tell how things will work at any given time.

So for future reference, if you're trying to do a release and catch, do you think it's safer to do it late at night or early early in the morning, when there's less traffic on the RCI site?
