  • Annoying RCI cruise phone calls

Why are they breaking my chops and calling early in the morning to advertise RCI cruise? And to make matters worse I don't even get a live person on the phone. I get an automated recording.

Those calls make me nuts. As if we need more reasons to be aggravated with RCI. They called at 8:30 am over the weekend.

We don't appreciate ANY unsolicited calls here, but when RCI calls to inquire about our spacebanking future years' ownership is just over the edge! If they were to research our account, they'd see that we spacebank 99% of our TS weeks via their website. Further, if I could pay early AND know what my plans would be for 2008 and beyond, I would already be depositing. Hopefully the last time they called they got the message and took me off their phone list as I asked them to.

Couldn't you just change your phone number in your profile to 555-1212 and be done with it?

So far, RCI has not bothered us but, I made it clear from the start my prefered method of communication is not by telephone. Maybe that helps, maybe I'm a sitting duck waiting for open season to suddenly begin without warning. Up until a few months ago the only account I had with RCI was through HGVC. Now I have a weeks account with a new resort purchase but, after looking at what RCI has to offer (or lack thereof), I've decided to end my subscription with them at the end of this term.

note: the 555 prefix does not exist. It's what's often used in the movies so real people don't get calls from the nuts who believe the movies are real.

A short tutorial on the North American Numbering Plan:

Actually that is not true. If you dial NPA 555 and line number 1212 in almost any area code you will be connected to information or directory assistance.

          Fictional telephone numbers
In American television shows and films, 555 (or, in older movies and shows, KLondike 5 or KLamath 5) is used as the first three digits of fictional telephone numbers, so if anyone is tempted to telephone a number seen on screen, it does not cause a nuisance to any actual person. (A classic example of such a nuisance is the 1982 song 867-5309/Jenny by Tommy Tutone, which is still the cause of a large number of nuisance calls.) However, not all numbers beginning with "555" are fictional—for example, 555-1212 is the number for directory assistance in many places. In many, but not all areas, dialing "555" numbers other than 555-1212 will actually get you to directory assistance as well. In fact, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are now specifically reserved for fictional use, with the other numbers having been released for actual assignment. Some movies have started to use fictional telephone numbers starting with "1", giving someone a "telephone number" of 167-1402 in one film, for example.

Sorry my training made me post this.

Hmmm, I've been sending a lot of telemarketers off to information then.

Maybe I'll just change the number to 111-1111 if they insist that I have to list a phone number.

Have a second ring and use that if you don't want to give it out. When it rings, we don't answer because we gave that phony number out for a reason.

I was reading everyone's post and wondered why we didn't get a cruise line call because RCI has our real number. While I was reading here, a call came in from RCI for a 20% discount on something if we call before the end of the month but what it was exactly, I didn't catch. How stupid. What a waste of company money and time.

It's not a waste if they get enough people to buy. Becaue enough people DO actually buy, you get to put up with telemarketers, QVC, infomercials and RCI calling to sell you something more.

The main problem with giving a false # is that if you get a unit on hold from a search. How can they contact you if they can't call you? Tough if you lose the hold because they can not get a hold of you.

RCI and II have our real numbers but it is in general because everyone wants your phone number and if you don't give one, they don't accept your inquiry and make you do it over again. You have to give a number if you like it or not and the same for an email address too. It's easy to give an email address that you hardly ever use or check but not with a phone number. This works for us.

I guess at that point you'd have to remember to change your profile phone # back to a working number.

I guess the best thing to do is just not do business with RCI until they change their business model.

                          Give them this number

If you are getting calls from them and don't want to just change the number in your profile to 1-800-338-7777.....What is this number to? Each time they go to call you they will be calling themselves because it is their number.

You don't have to change your number just call them and tell them that you do everything on line and you don't want them to call you. That's what I did over a year ago and I they told me it's now in my profile. I haven't received a call from RCI ever since I told them to stop calling me to solicit their products.

If they get a unit on hold from a search they can still call you.
