Who else NOT renewing RCI?

I have had RCI since 2000, and never was too pleased with the units I could pull. Last year I exchanged a 2-BR Krystal Cancun for a 1-BR at W. Palm Beach Shores. Two weeks before I left, RCI had it on Last Call for $300. Prior to leaving on that trip, I also exchanged that same 2-br unit from 2007 through SFX for a 2-BR Grand Mayan. Two weeks before that trip, RCI had the GM on Last Call for $3,200. How's that for who provides better exchanges?

Yesterday RCI called for the second time with a 3 for 2 renewal, and I firmly told them I had no interest in renewing and place my name on a do not call list.

Exchange by exception

I will be using internal systems such as Sunterra and exchanging with other systems rather then RCI. RCI has decided their future is in rentals not in supporting owners.

I have been an RCI member since 1996. Many happy exchanges. Our last RCI exchange will be taken this August. I am not renewing.

My club dues pay RCI membership. Unless the club changes systems, I'm a member whether I use them or not.

GPR's internal system is via RCI and our membership is paid out through 2013. Still using and exchanging with good results for many years. We shall see how I feel in six more years.

My membership ends in 2013 and it looks like I will not be renewing. Exchanging is getting harder every year and I'm not interested in depositing weeks just to have them rented out by RCI.

I've read to many things about RCI canceling exchanges and now all the information that's been coming out about pushing rentals through brokers to trust them with the deposit of any of my weeks.

We're stuck with RCI through our HGVC resort as a corporate account. Other than that we have one resort which is affiliated with RCI and RCI will never see that resort as a deposit. Our membership for that weeks resort will expire next year and I don't plan on renewing it. If we ever plan on exchanging that weeks resort then we'll do so through one of the independant exchange companies. Depending on what HGVC tells me next year about the availability/ability to exchange into the resort we want I may not even process that exchange through Hilton and RCI but may try my luck with an independant instead for that one as well.

RCI seems to have taken a public stance that they'll make their money via rentals. If that's going to be the case then I have no intention of providing them with the inventory to accomplish their goals.

As the exchange opportunity moderator here it is my job to post available weeks. Perhaps I have gotten fussy over the years and perhaps I have seen an obvious decline in places I would like to go WHEN I can go.

We just got back from a wonderful beachfront OBX exchange and are heading to England in August. Those arrangements were made 15 to 18 months out with RCI.

I see little in my limited school calendar that I wish to exchange to at this point. There are other companies that I can work with and tailor my desires to ensure I will get what I want, when I want it.

I started out with II because my first purchase was a resort that gave me a free 1 year membership there. Later I bought a duel affiliated resort & used it to join RCI for 2 years. My idea was to use the last call & extra vacations. In 18 months I have checked almost daily for something I could use. Nada, nothing, zilch. My membership expires in December & I have never used it for anything. But I have found SFX, Trading Places. HTSE & II very good for various destinations & reasonable exchange rates. I have used II's bonus weeks for great exchanges & their extra vacations often have resorts & destinations I can take advantage of for bargain prices. My most recent purchase puts me into Sunterra's point system. So no need to even explore RCI points.

I have absolutely no need for RCI. They even charge too much for their rentals to the places I want to go. Goodbye, RCI.

I will continue with RCI for a few more years at least, because of the internal exchange of the Grand Pacific Resorts. I will use SFX also,and maybe Trading Places and DAE.
I think trading with RCI has gotten more difficult than in the past. I don't like seeing them rent our exchanges. But on the plus side I have gotten a few great Extra Vacations and Last calls that make the membership worthwhile. RCI has some screwball rules like the 1 in 4 and area restrictions that are a pain, but by using the other exchanges I figure I can get around them. The 1 in 4 applied to the Westin in PV for an exchange but I got a 1 bedroom a couple of Thanksgivings ago for $ 378.00 with no deposit used, and the 1 in 4 did not apply to the Extra Vacation. My Cabo resort has a restriction on other Cabo Resorts for a regular trade but sometimes I can see them on Extra Vacations for less than their maintainence fees. RCI doesn't make sense but I will use them where it fits.

Our membership expires in 2010, and we will be selling the only week that is affiliated solely with RCI, that is our Gurney's week 52, timing it with the expiration of RCI.

We have been RCI members since 1986...seen the highs and lows, the sublime to the ridiculous...now we just see greed, deception and bait and switch as the norm. When Cendant took over RCI the plan was always to turn it into another churn, earn, and burn the membership....count this member burned.

We joined II two years ago to test the waters and have had much happier times with their website, their customer service and the exchanges.

The fact that we also have gotten bonus weeks for deposits and that we can do an online search against those bonus weeks also a great plus for II.

RCI's so called "one for one" bonus weeks are empty and meaningless, and just a way to force the member to call into the CSR area and get screwed with by sales tactics and "errors". I am not interested, thank you.

I don't fear calling II to ask a question, nor do I fear that they will mess up my search or my confirmed weeks like when I fear calling RCI. Too many times RCI VC's lie, make deposits, cancel weeks or other "errors" that are indicative of an incentive driven CSR dept.

We will take many happy memories of the good old days, but life will become even better when we can say "we are no longer members of RCI."

As long as RCI continues to increase its general public rentals of resorts owned by private dues-paying, maint-fee paying owners, it will continue to draw hostility and enmity from the general timesharing segment.

Add the above to the ever increasing fees, the spiraling costs up and up with decline in availability and increase in deceptive tactics at the call centers...RCI is the picture perfect example of what has gone wrong with corporate culture.

So who wants to claim "I belong to THAT!"

We own 5 HGVC resorts, so I'm familiar with the internal exchanges, as well as the ability to use RCI through HGVC. However, I have been using the points to reserve HGVC weeks, which I then deposit with SFX to avoid RCI. Lower fees, plus better quality resorts and bonus weeks.

I couldn't have said it better! We got several years of RCI membership using SA rates when we purchased our South African timeshares. We have since sold the SA weeks, but have the RCI membership until 12/11. Our Hawaii weeks are dually affiliated with RCI and II, but we prefer using Trading Places, because they get us comparable weeks in paradise and their bonus weeks also get us fabulous trades. II is our second choice. We will not renew RCI or allow them to use any of our weeks! We are also soured on poor results with SFX!

Well, I'm sticking with RCI for the time being...not lots to complain about, still able to go where I want to go. My attempt to exchange with DAE has not been successful so far, though I like that they have replied quickly to my questions.
