  • Why Do You Think RCI Quit "Ask RCI" at TUG Without Giving A Reason?

RCI was using TUG's "ASK RCI" as a PR Forum.

Why didn't they give their usual PR reason for quitting to the TUG membership?

    Risk Management.

They had more to lose than to gain by having a presence on the internet designed to answer questions and give advice.

Litigation. Why would a party to litigation attempt to answer questions posed by people who supported their opponent so that they could be thrown in their face at trial?

        Marge got tired

Maybe Marge got tired of the nastiness from some people. I didn't always like her answers or non-answers, but realized she had to watch what she said because of working for RCI. In total, she helped more than not.

There also might have been a change of her boss who may not have supported the amount of time she spend on TUG or her association with TUG.

It would have been nice if she or RCI had said why the support was stopping.

What I think is truly not pertinent.

It is a faux pas on RCI's part to not state that they were no longer supporting that forum. No reason even needed to be given. Cendant is not know for having the customer first in their business model and this is just another glaring example.

It seemed to coincide with TUG's new forums by independents- maybe they couldn't take the competition.

I understand why they quit. I would have quit long ago given how badly they are hated and panned by so many tuggers. It certainly didn't do any good for them from a PR point of view.

I don't understand why they didn't provide a formal goodbye. You know, stuff like, it has been a wonderful several years supporting you.

But then again, maybe Madge was tired of people bashing her and she figured that if she said any goodbyes that many people would go out and bash her good bye statements as not being genuine.

              Still, it's odd.

I agree that RCI has shot itself in the foot by just walking away without explanation. All they needed to do was say that time pressures, or whatever, made it impossible to provide the level of service they felt necessary blah, blah, blah. Even if they, and we, didn't believe the reason it would have reduced the level of speculation that it has created.

Even if they didn't want to have a public reason, IMHO it was odd that they would even acknownledge Brain's many emails to them.

With the IT department over at RCI the way it is, who knows if they ever got Brian's e-mails.

There the lightbulb just went on.

RCI did not quit. The office internet connection just isn't working for the last month or so.

Maybe it's all just scheduled maintenance.

I am not into nasty. I don't know how or why she stayed as long as she did. You may not agree with RCI's policies or with Madge's answers but she did not deserve to be bashed as she was. I have to be pushed pretty hard before I get halfway ugly (and I have) and I think she is probably relieved not to have to thread a line between RCI's policies and helping others. shaggy

I never really read the Ask RCI board. After a few questions early on where I got non-answers and then my follow ups were deleted by the moderators, I basically threw up my hands and figured that Ask RCI was useless. I never really followed it as far as observing whether people got ''nasty'' with her or not.

At least with II, Craig U did the decent thing and gave members a heads up when he left. In his case, he stayed with the Ask II board until he left II.

I tend to agree that the appearance of Ask DAE and similar boards for other independents had a lot to do with the disappearance of Ask RCI. I don't think the lawsuit did, because the timing was wrong for that.

                              Darn it!

After joining RCI pts in 2000 and being told we'd have internet access within months and now 7 years later, still waiting, I guess I'll never find out now when us Aussies will have access to RCI pts online, will I?
