Something new? Exchange plus cash?

I haven't used RCI for a few weeks, and tonight for the heck of it, I did a search and the results showed with circling orange arrows, and if I clicked on a resort, at the bottom of the units listed, there is another green circling arrows that says "Exchange plus cash".

So, I guess the solution RCI has come up with is to charge fees plus extra $$ for exchanges. My guess it would be based on upgrades, time of year and value of the unit you are using for the exchange.

But of course, the secret formula, or ever changing values will remain secret.

So, are you saying that you can now exchange into any resort, regardless of trading power, if you give them the equivalent in cash?

This appeared for me too this morning- I did see the little icons - but none of my searches needed the 'plus cash' feature so I couldn't manage to find out any more about it.
Didn't see anything apparent on their website either (surprise).
Can't wait to find out more about this (not).

new feature + annoying popup

I noticed this new feature too. I also noticed a warning box that appears when I do a search. After I enter the dates for my search and click to initiate the search, a box pops us warning me that the page I want contains both secure and unsecure items and asks if I want to view the unsecure items. This warning box also appears if I try to "view all" of the resorts. Boy is this annoying!

Is anyone else getting that security warning box?

Yes, I get that little box too...and this business of weeks +cash! This does not bode well. Already we pay for the exchange, so why added cash? And under what circumstances? I didn't see any of those in any of the weeks I pulled, so I couldn't find any further information either. Does anyone here have any idea?

My question is, if RCI is so annoying and getting so bad, why use them at all? Why not use the alternative exchange companies until RCI comes to it's sense's and makes their exhange company work for timeshare owners as a timeshare exchange company rather than a timeshare rental company?

They must be having issues with the website. I just tried to look for exchange to see what this is all about. Each time it told me exchange date had to be at least 3 days in the future and I was searching out several months.

This is something they have been promising/threatening for some time. I heard about it, gosh, somewhere, maybe a year ago.

Actually, it is similar to what I asked if we could do when we first started almost 20 years ago.

- Exchange Unit(s) Available
- Exchange + Cash Unit(s) Available

I had not done my daily searches the last two mornings so this morning is the first time I saw this.

The first thing I noticed that was new (out of place) was the Exchange icon. Then as I opened up some resorts I notice the Exchange + Cash icon. I didn;t open anything that had the + Cash option.

As to my most important searches, it does not make any difference if nothing has been deposited.

Don't have the exchange + cash option - Have "Trade in Unit(s) Available" Instead

I searched this earlier this morning as well and ran into the pop box "display secure and nonsecure items". It is is a pain!

I did notice the new exchange icon in orange but I also get a green icon that says "trade in units(s) available" also. It doesn't appear on the main search results page but rather when I've clicked on an individual resort to display what's available. I haven't seen any actual weeks yet that fall into that category, rather just this new icon at the bottom of the listing. I'll do some searches to see if I can find an actual week.

I don't think this is the case. I searched with my tiger trader and then searched with a weak one and still pull quite a few more weeks with my tiger. If trading power wasn't an issue, the weak trader would pull up the same results as the tiger with a lot of exchange + cash options to account for the difference.

It sounds like they are trying to go more toward the Redweek exchange model, no? If you don't have enough "points" (trading power), you can supplement with cash to get what you want.

Seems to me this might have its advantages, if done well. But since this is coming from RCI, all bets are off...

So if I deposit a crappy week, I can still get that great exchange if I just "slide" RCI a little extra cash on the side? Now the great exchange is no longer in the system but my crappy week is?

Boy, I feel bad for that poor sucker who deposited a great week foolishly thinking they would be able to obtain equal value.

You are all so negative.......think positive. The exchange plus cash option must mean if we trade down in size or location then RCI will send us the cash difference for making a crappy exchange.

Difference between CDN and US accounts?

It seems everyone else has the

Exchange + cash icon

while I have the

Trade in Units available icon

Perhaps it is because I have a Canadian account and since this is so new, the cash option is only available to US accounts? I wouldn't be surprised as there as things that they can't do yet for CDN accounts (e.g. last call for CDN Points accounts)

What would really be suspicious is if TS resorts appear for exchange plus cash that have not been appearing with a top trader.

It could be that non-timeshare properties, stuff that has not been deposited by owners, may now be made available this way, with exchange plus cash regardless of trading power.

Let's just wait and see.
