i had a question about the RCI guest certificate program and the minimum age requirement...
my parents have three weeks available to exchange for our timeshare in Egypt. I was looking to use one of these weeks and exchange it for a trip for my friends and I in either december or for our spring break. We are all between 19 and 20 years old. Does the minimum 21 age requirement apply to my friends and I, even though my parents are giving ME the week to use? If so, WHY? we are going to mexico, where anything goes when ur 17. I dont understand why they have a minimum age requirement for guests. Also, if this is true, what if my parents took me and my younger siblings for vacation with a week exchange? would that not be possible since none of the kids are 21? i dont understand this.

    thanks for ur help!!

If you have a credit card to check in chances are age will not be an issue.

BigFrank, can you please expand on your opinion here? I would love to not have to accompany my very responsible son when he travels to Cancun with a friend in March- he does have a cc. Don't get me wrong, I love going to Mexico whenever I have the chance. However, I just bought a week at Quarterhouse in NOLA for the same week (10) and would prefer going there to check out my new buy!

      Thanks

Basicly they ask for a Credit Card at check in to cover expenses or damages. I have never been proofed at checkin in my life. That does not mean t can't happen but I would bet that as long as they have a CC they should be OK.

If the last name is the same as the person checking in then I would leave it as is. If the last name is different then yes get a gift certificate.

The policy of the resort you wish to exchange into will determine what age a guest has to be.

Each resort has the right to run it however they see fit, however their association has determined is best for them. Each resort can have any minimum age they want.

              Or any other requirement.

Age of majority, national or local laws has nothing to do with it.

So, my advice should be obvious, that you should not tempt fate by traveling to a resort where there is a possibility that you might be refused admittance.

its not the hotel minimum age, its the RCI guest ceritifcate minimum age. the hotel were looking at has a minimum 18 age, so thats no problem, its just the guest certificates program that says if the time share owner "decides t give away his week to family and friends" guests have to be 21.

I would venture to say that the reason for RCI stating 21 is to protect themselves since the minimum age varies from one resort to another (probably with 21 being the oldest that any require). That way they don't have to worry about being held responsible for issuing a guest certificate that will be refused when the person arrives. I don't know how they would know or be able to verify that the recipient was 21 or not at the time when a member requests the GC. As long as you have verified with the resort that 18 is okay I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You can only have 2 names on an account. Your mom and dad count for the 2.

No one here can give you permission to violate someone else's policy.
