    Do I need to say more?

    Not so new. The Phillipines call center has been taking calls for at least the last 15 months.

    Needless to say I hang up when I get them.

      They don't talk english that you can understand and they don't know RCI rules.

      But they do know how to ask for deposits

        I have always done well with RCI Mexico City.....no complaints there from me. The Phillippines has been around for some time now.....and like Lawren....I also usually hang up when I get them. They are starting to get the hang of it but most of them have a long way to go.

          Well I guess that shows you how long it's been since I had to call RCI...

          I'm pretty sure the Mexico City office was closed permanently, wasn't it?

            Gee, that's funny. I called for a Points Partners purchase recently, and I was connected with someone in the Philippines. Until then I hadn't realized that RCI had offices there. But it didn't matter. I was able to understand them and get my business done.

                No.

                Of course I may be prejudiced as my job was outsourced.

                When I listen to the news and hear that foreclosures are at record breaking levels and that job creation here in the US, which was expected to be +100k and ended up being -4k positions, I feel that my prejudice is well justified.

                  Actually I do hang up if it is the Philippines or Indianapolis USA. It has nothing to do with prejudice. It has everything to do with which RCI reps can get done what I want done and how fast they can do it.

                  From my experience the Philippine Reps don't know what to do and the Indy Reps think they know too much.

                  I don't understand how this can get so twisted in anyone's mind to think it had to do with anything else.

                  I prefer Ireland, Canada, and Mexico City in that order. They have always come through in most cases.

                  Is the Mexico City office closed? That would be a bummer.

                    I understand it, but your anger is misplaced. You should be angry with the political climate in the US, which allows employers to outsource, not the employees themselves. If you were in their position, wouldn't you take the work, too?

                    As far as supporting jobs, my supermarket has "self check" as an option. I never use it. Sunday when I was there I was patiently waiting in one of the two checker-manned lines. A checker came up to me and "invited me" to go to the self-check. I told her that I was sorry, but I didn't use self-check because I didn't want to support the loss of retail clerk jobs due to its use. She said, "I still have a job!" I looked at her in amazement. I said, "Well, yes, but you are now manning FOUR checkstands, so that means three people no longer have jobs." She just didn't seem to get it.

                      My two-minute rant!

                      While this is not directed at any poster in particular, I get a little tired of the Filipino-bashing, Indian-bashing, Mexican-bashing, Chinese-bashing, Taiwanese-bashing and (insert any developing economy country here)-bashing I observe on this and other bulletin boards.

                      As consumers, most of us actively seek out cheaper sources for our goods and services. In real terms, the cost of most consumer goods and services has come down significantly in the last 20 years. How exactly do you think companies are supposed to have accomplished this. Through technology? Certainly to some degree. But as consumers we expect cheaper prices for our goods and services, so why are we surprised when companies seek ways to do exactly that? I sympathize greatly with individuals in the developed nations of the world who face personal crisis because of job loss, but you can't fight this, it's going to happen because as the world economy continues to globalize, as consumers, we drive it. How many people do you know who buy a more expensive product or service because it's American-made? No doubt a few, but when it comes to consumer goods and services, the vast majority buy what's cheapest. Instead of belittling those who speak differently than we do or are still learning what others had time to learn, perhaps we should look within ourselves to see what we can do to redevelop and re-engineer so that we are still ahead in a different game.

                      On the positive side, I work with and read about many people and organizations who have been able to position themselves in the knowledge economy, and still provide significant value over their foreign counterparts. These are the smart ones - they've learned how to succeed in the new world economy.

                        Don't you see, however, that utilizing these offices in the Phillipines is exactly the same as using the self-check line at the grocery store, in so far as it's impact on the American workingman?

                          This feels offensive to me...particularly as we choose to buy less expensive goods and use companies which outsource. The people in less fortunate countries want to work, what's wrong with that? As for folks who answer the phone and whose accents I cannot understand, whether or not in the US, I politely tell them that I just can't understand and tell them I need to move on.

                              As the originator of this thread, I am frankly insulted by the supposition that I had a problem with the Phillipines (and with Mexico City) because of their accents or ethnicity.

                              It appears to be a rather well-known fact (whether on TUG, Timeshare Forums, or even at my resort owner meetings) that the RCI folks in Mexico City have not been trained as well as the folks in other RCI offices. I have had my own personal experiences with calling Mexico City, trying and trying to get what I need from them, and finally hanging up in frustration, calling back, and getting another office who knows exactly what to do.

                              I was simply stating that now there appeared to be a new (to me, as I don't call that often anymore) office in the Phillipines with poorly trained staff. The woman I spoke to kept telling me I had no RCI account after I gave her my RCI number repeatedly...what can one possibly do with that? I then asked to be transferred to a supervisor, and she put me on hold, only to pick up herself again forgetting that we had just spoken.

                              Incompetence is incompetence...and if staff in certain locations happens to be more poorly trained that staff in other locations, well then it's RCI's fault for not doing their job and certainly not my (or anyone else's) fault for noting that fact.
