  • How bad is europe availability for US members?

For the last week I have done an on-line search for "British Isles/without canal boats" The search spans from 19-Apr-2008 thru 05-Sept-2008.

It used to be that the good British Isles exchanges could only be gotten two years out. I'd be curious to see if you can find anything for summer 2009 though, as my week can't even pull much of that.

Take it from me, it's horrible. It is not only England but the rest of Eyrope during prime time. Since DH is Greek we go to Europe often and over the past 12 years I have seen a steady decline in available inventory. One of the reasons I bought in England, Ireland and Greece is this reason alone...I certainly didn't need MORE units.

The availability in Interval is good, but the problem is that the lead time is not sufficient to usually get FF tickets or even great fares. There inventory seems to appear in the 6 months range and that just won't work for most people.

Same timeframe for 2009. No where that I want to go. Honestly I haven't seen a super summer UK exchange since 2005 when I booked my own trip for 2007. And you can totally forget about Rome and Venice.

The shoulder season availibility in RCI has also gone down. There is more there than in summer, but a lot less selection than there was a few years ago.

Now that I have a European address, I have wondered if I should try to convert my membership over here for the few weeks I have left in RCI (they have gotten the last deposit I will ever give them), but I wonder if even that would help any.

I got a great 2BR in Croatia from DAE for next summer, however!

I try to go at least once a year. My daughter lives in St. Andrews. The choices for Scotland have definitely diminished, both high and shoulder season. Of interest, I have also noted that SFX has not had any London trades this winter in their sell-offs. In past years, those have been fairly plentiful and this year I thought they would be even easier with the exchange rate scaring everyone off.

As to Italy, I have always found Tuscany and Venice to be a hard find but with patience doable. I tend to alternate between the two and can find them during shoulder season but have never seen them during the summer. I am booked for Venice this year and Tuscany in 2009.

Would love to find a Croatia or Prague somewhere.

By the way, I trade thru RCI and not II

If you are interested in Croatia for summer 2008, check Dial An Exchange Timeshare, Vacation Ownership & Points Clubs Exchange Service and click on availibility for Eastern Europe for 2008. They still have a fair amount of inventory on the Croatian coast.

I see Prague every now and then at DAE, and have posted a couple of those sightings.

DAE is an independent exchange company with free membership and a ''request first'' system where you do not have to pre-pay an exchange fee or deposit a week until they can confirm an exchange for you. You can use them even if you are a member of RCI or II, and they will take about any timeshare week as an exchange deposit.

In that vein, I couldn't believe the unbelievably fabulous EXTRA VACATIONS - RENTALS in RCI for British Isles for summer 2008, that I saw listed just a few months ago. And for reasonable prices, like $800/wk - a few pennies more than many of our mf's + the $200 exchange fee. And pages and pages of it. This is the better stuff that was available and plentiful for exchange a couple years ago - like Stout's Hill, and Galway Bay Cottages, and Lakes District (having taken a detour thru Lakes this past summer, it's now on my wish list - but have seen zero zilch in exchange for warm weather). In fact, rentals in Lakes District included some resorts I've never even seen on exchange list, such as Langdale.

I haven't looked since this past July, so I have no idea what's still there. But if you're looking for UK, check out Extra Vacations as soon as you can - this is where they've gone (no doubt for higher and higher $$).

I know we all know this, but I couldn't believe the drastic difference, either, nor how MUCH rental inventory there was.

                  Steve,

It may just be worth the effort to switch your account over to a euro one if that is possible. We have an intermittent poster on the RCI Ex-Ops boards who sees very prime weeks that we rarely if ever see with our NA accounts.

BTW I posted those Croatia weeks which looked very nice for DAE Ex-ops.

I don't see anything in Extra Vacations for June, July, or August in the British Isles next summer. Does anyone else see anything?

                      Lawren,
I do searches including Europe, UK and specifically Greek Islands at least once a week and I used to see quite a bit of Greek Islands for 1 yr to 2 yr out but lately it has been very little to none. I thought that it was the weeks I had drawn with my visible FF deposits which are the worst ones they have ever given me (ie Williamsburg Patriots Place) but maybe it's not just that!!!

Sharon, all certainly could be gone by now... probably best to check at just under a year out, for whatever dates you're looking for.

I just happened to have printed out a list on 7/27/07... check-in dates show May 3 08 thru July 10 08, with prices from $519-$1034 for non-canalboat. Here's the list of 27 (including narrowboats there were 32 rental resorts available), with multiple check-in dates for the majority - and I know there weren't as many exchange choices when I checked around the same time with my top traders:

                        La Grande Mare
Brantridge Park - starting at $782
                        Trewince Manor
                        Thurnham Hall
                        Tregenna
                        Barnsdale

                        Clowance Estate
                        Hever
                        Langdale - $953

                        Passage House
Chapel Stile Apartments at Langdale - $980
                        Sutton Hall
                        Stouts Hill - $890-$1016

When I posted elsewhere on this board about the decrease in my super RCI trader, one of the reasons was because of the sudden decrease in Euro sightings - but now it seems EVERYONE is having the same problem ???
I used to see TONS of British Isle availability 2 years out....seems as if everyone is in the same boat - could they be 'blocking' all the NA accounts for some reason?
Or just selling them as demonstrated above????
