  • Make them STOP calling me!

    a) I haven't deposited a week since 2005.
    b) As soon as we returned from England I requested my account be cancelled and the difference credited back to me.

I of course am still waiting for the credit and I am getting the impression that I will have to escalate this issue to get the account closed.

I am getting very very tired of seeing RCI Indianapolis showing up on my caller id. Daily, sometimes twice daily, looking for me to deposit my weeks.

HELLO RCI? My weeks have gone elsewhere.

I am also wondering, as I own a Wyndham resort, if I can even add them to my Do Not Call list.

I certainly sympathize with you, but from a legal standpoint you have an "account" relationship with Wyndham which in turn has a direct affiliation with RCI. Accordingly, you cannot actually prohibit RCI from making those calls; they will have to voluntarily stop doing (just as they voluntarily stopped being a good exchange company).

Business relationship or not, harassment can be claimed. If you want to stop the calls= contact RCI's legal department and complain and if the calls persist call the phone company and complain.

Send a letter certified mail informing them that they may no longer call you at your phone number. Make certain it's return receipt. From that point forward they must stop calling you.

Usually the quickest way is to answer your phone and tell them personally not to call you at this number anymore. With most companies that's enough. With RCI you might want to ask them to put a supervisor on the phone first.

When we lived in the city, our # was one digit off from one of those... excited callers misdial an awful lot, we had to unplug the phones every night. Just like we do in timeshares, to avoid the sales calls

I'd have put a message on my answering machine every night that went something like:

Sex predators hotline, please hold for the next available agent.

Sex offenders support group, please hold.

Gay rights activist group of the (area of the country). Please leave your name and number and we'll get back to you.

Anti porn Christian rights group. Your number has been traced and will be added to our web page and local authorities will be allerted.

HIV/Aids support group. Please leave a number and one of our counselers will return your call.

You have reached the offices for the support of the blind. Please speak you number at the beep and someone will call you right back.

Viagra hotline. If you are experiencing an erection lasting longer than 4 hours please hang up and dial 911. Otherwise leave you number and we'll call you back during normal business hours.

                    By the by....
I joined RCI for 2 years when I purchased a qualified resale at San Luis Bay. I wanted to use the extra vacations. My membership expires in December. In all this time I have never deposited anything nor found anything on EV I could use. I have recieved ONE phone call trying to sell me something and I don't even remember what it was. A cruise maybe. That's it. One call. A handful of generic e-mails. That's all.

At II, when they kept calling with alternatives to my requests I told them to please not call & have never heard from them by phone again. I still get e-mails & snail mail AC offers. But no phone calls.

I know this is rude, but this is my DH's way of dealing with companies that feel the need to continually solicit. Answer the phone, and just lay it down, and let the rep take to themselves. Don't hang up or say anything. Let the caller hang up first. It's rude, but they seem to get the hint!!

                          How about one more:

STD hotline. Leave a message telling us where you itch and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime please don't use any over the counter bug killers on yourself.

BTW, have you ever had the opportunity to listen to some of Tom Mabe's work? He HATES telemarketers and tape records his conversations with them. Very funny stuff what he does to telemarketers the bug him. He once found out they were having a convention in Las Vegas, found out what hotel they were staying in and what block of rooms they have. He then got a room in the same hotel and started telemarketing them from his own room.

Here's a link to a Youtube page with some of Mr. Mabe's pranks for telemarketers who have called him .
