Deposting Week in Grandview Las Vegas

I finally got my RCI membership card...so excited to deposit my week and start looking for next summer's vacation. But it said I have to contact the resort in order to deposit the week. I own 1 week at the GrandView Las Vegas. Has anyone else had to do this? And who do I call...the reservations line?!

Oh boy...
Do you mean summer 2008? If so even the easiest trades like Orlando and Williamsburg and Massanutten are pretty much gone. Many of us are looking at 2009 now for RCI trades.

You may have to think about depositing your week with a company other than RCI if you really want or need next summer.

Where is it you would like to go and how flexible are your travel dates for summer?

Welcome to the club.

Depositing with any exchange company is pretty much the same and relatively straightforward. If your week is in a floating season you reserve one.

You pay your maintenance, call your member number at your resort or management company and tell them you would like to deposit your week with XYZ company.

Do you really want Australia in August? It is winter there then. I could suggest 2 exchange companies that would stand a good chance of getting you there.

FWIW I do not think that Las Vegas has very strong trading power in the RCI weeks system.

While I might agree that I don't care for RCI and that for some of us advance planners the best resorts might be hard to come by, I don't think you're out of luck as far are RCI and August or 2008. I alsonot certain I would agree that Vegas has poor trading power. We have 4 Vegas units and all have exchanged very well over the years.

Now for the problem with my assumptions. I don't exchange through RCI. Our accounts are with I.I. While RCI is not my favorite exchange company that's only because they keep announcing new rental programs available to non-members (aka: the public in general) an they've allowed resort to extort more money out of owners with the RCI points program. On the other hand there are a few members that much prefer RCI to I.I. and RCI has considerably more member resorts than I.I.

While I can't search with RCI I can search with Interval International with a 2 bedroom Las Vegas week I have deposited with them. Here are all the options I come up with doing an online search using my Vegas week with I.I.

If I can pull those area's with a Vegas deposit for August of 2008 my bet is you'll be able to find something exiting with RCI as well. Or you could check out one of the smaller independant companies like SFX or DAE to see if they'll take you week and give you something very nice in return.

Like I said, I'm not happy with RCI either but, my reasons are over their rentals to the public program that, IMO, diminishes the resorts available for exchange to owners. I do not see a clear seperation of resorts deposited for exchange and those deposited for other services such as cruises. I also don't see a clear seperation between units in the points program and units in the weeks program. IMO, RCI comingles all the deposits and then skims the very best units from the top to profit from as rentals.

My assumption may or may not be true. There are enough that believe it is that a class action law suit has been started and is still in the discovery stages. It will be years before that one ever goes to court if it ever makes it that far. Instead I'm doing my part to voice my disatisfaction by cancelling my membership and using my weeks either for personal use or, if we decide to exchange going through an independant exchange company. But that's just my opinion and should not color you decision based on your personal needs and/or beliefs.

I know from ebay that your resort can be RCI weeks or RCI Points. Which ownership type is yours, RCI weeks or RCI Points?

If your ownership is a 2 bedroom RCI Points ownership in high season then you will have plenty of RCI Points to make very good trades in the RCI Points or on the RCI weeks side of your RCI Points account.

When you are reserving a week at your resort (and even if yours is a RCI weeks ownership) grab the the week that has the highest RCI Point value that you are allowed to as shown on the RCI Points chart.

We own in Las Vegas at the RCI Point resorts Summer Bay and your resorts sister resort Cliffs at Peace Canyon week 42 but we have stayed in II resorts the last 2 week 42's at the Marriot and the Westgate.

I wouldn't abandon hope for that vacation for next summer... Even my weak Wyndham red studio deposit pulled a lot of the resorts Doug mentioned.

I pulled 90 resorts in florida, just for august. Many of which Gold crown rated.

Many Mexico resorts, non mandatory, gold crown... California, arizona, colorado, etc. If you could find reasonable airfare on short notice and be flexible, you'll see many many great Island resorts that are well rated within your reach. A year out with one of these studios I pulled Cayman Islands, one bedroom. I think you'll be ok...

If you can search online with your deposit, i believe you'll find some nice places to choose and learn a lot on the ins and out of RCI exchanges.

Oh, i pulled only 3 australian resorts at this time. 1 and 2 bedrooms. resort ID's # 1487,0827,0953 for August.

When I bought my first timeshare, a floating 2BR in Kissimmee, it was already June by the time I closed on it. I requested a week from Sunterra when kids are still out of school. They gave me an August week, which I thought would be a stinker trader, but I deposited it with RCI and was able to make a decent exchange.

So, don't give up hope, even if you don't see something now, you might still have something pop up for the summer with the owners depositing kind of late.

We own at Grandview and have managed to exchange into Tuscany and The Dolomites.
For travel dec 2008. We only bought in April.
I think that Australia in August would be a realistic hope. We live in Australia and have used 2 of our Berkley Weeks during school holidays here. It would depend on where in Oz you wanted to go. But if we can get last minute in school holidays I do not think you will have trouble outside of holidays. Where in Australia do you want to go?

Thanks all for your help! You're giving me hope!! I orginally bought this timeshare because I have been planning a trip to Australia with a good friend. We plan on spending a little over 2 weeks in Oz, in Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns. We'll be on a boat the entire time in Cairns, so we only need accomodation in Syndey and Melbourne. I didn't realize how difficult it is to get an exchange in the few locations RCI has! I just did my search, and I pulled only 4 resorts. I suppose I'll keep checking each day to see if something pulls up...keep your fingers crossed for me!!

What you see online is generally consider to be the left overs or what's not wanted from matches made with ongoing searches. You will probably have better luck if you call RCI and tell them what you want and start an ongoing search.
