  • Best strategie for RCI cancellation

Thanks to a sighting by the wonderful ArtsieAng, I will be canceling an exchange to Outer Banks Beach Club OBX for this coming October.

I have never canceled before....when is the best time to cancel?
Once I cancel, how long do I have to use it???

Chances are I wouldn't be able to use the week until April-May 2009

The best procedure, which I did this past week and a few times before, is to put the new exchange on Hold. Then call a Guide and tell them you want to cancel the old one, use the deposit used to get the old one for the new one, and get the week you used to put the new one on Hold back.

Good strategy - but I don't have anything else in the bank....
I will probably deposit an August '09 week in May - is it okay to wait until then to cancel?
Any penalty to canceling 3-4 months out from use?

You get some refund up until 60 days prior to use date.

From the Exchange Confirmation that arrived today:

If you cancel more than 60 days before your check-in date, your exchange fee will be credited less $119.00. If you cancel 60 days or less before check-in, RCI will retain the full exchange fee. If a natural disaster makes your confirmed vacation unavailable, you will lose the full exchange fee, and will not be eligible for another exchange against this deposit.

        Bummer.

Pat I'd cancel right away. The longer you wait the less trade power you will have. You will have the same expiration on the week as originally deposited, 2 years from check-in.

I have an RCI week at Morritts Grand Cayman booked for March 2009

So regardless of whether I cancel today or next December, I only get back what I paid less $119??? The fact that I am cancelling more than a year in advance (if I cancelled today) doesnt get me any more money back????

                Thanks,
                Paul

But, it does reputedly get you more trade power back----well, more accurately, a less severe reduction in trade power. If the week was a dog to begin with, no reason to hurry. But if it had decent pull, may as well cancel as soon as you know you are not going.
