  • RCI is Beta Testing their New Resort Directory

I just went to the RCI site as I was checking out a resort. They're introducing a new look for their resorts, where you can go with a map view or a list view. Additionally, part of it looks like the II resort book with the various categories of "golf, beach, etc". as mini-icons. It's got a new RCI Points indicator and you no longer need to be logged in to see if it's a points resort or not. The RCI points values are showing again so you can see how many points you'll need in order to book a specific week. They're using flash to upload and show more stuff.

This is only in the directory part if you go into the directory specifically to look up a resort. If you go into the resort through the exchange side by doing a search, it brings up the old format.

The new section looks ok. We'll see what it means in the long run.

I find it very annoying, and oh so similar to the EV and LC version, but that's just me. No longer can you get a match on resort name.

I agree that's a pain! As I play around with it more, I find it also similar to the SFX directory, which takes time to load up as well. The flash load time is slow

Not a bad thing if you are looking in a low density area as I was today but can you imagine Orlando or Branson?

        and yes slow.

        Very slow.

For the first time, I just spent about 30 + minutes on RCI, going through their directory. I was trying to get an idea of what resorts they offer, as well as weeks vs points. Also took a look to see how many points were needed for anything that interested me. I had to say to my DH 3-4 times how slow the site was, and how it was driving me crazy.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Ditto....After experiencing RCI, you have to appreciate the ease of searching on II.

Actually you can still search on name. It's far from obvious but "Search for RCI Affiliated Resorts" at the bottom left of the page does that. I certainly can't see the logic of removing the option from the first search box.

Could they make it a little less obvious? I'm rarely in the directory and I am glad we got the database built here before RCI changed over to this new format or it would have been much worse to do.

I agree Lawren. My initial reaction was exactly the same as yours i.e. "What's happened to the ability to search by name?". It looks like yet another well thought out enhancement to the RCI computer system.
I've never seen a situation like this before where a company puts a Beta version up as the live offering. They would normally either test it fully in-house or ask for volunteers to test it on-line first. They don't even have any obvious way for users to comment on the new design.

Do we know for certain that this is indeed a beta test?
Maybe they just threw it up there for the world to use, and to h*ll with feedback!

On a positive note from this change. I really like the Area Attractions and the transportation tabs. I have been looking at a golf trip to Scotland, Ireland or England and now I can see the nearby golf courses. This is especially cool when searching these locations and getting to see a British Open Course nearby a resort.
