  • Week 26/27 (July 4th) observations

So I had an ongoing search for July East Coast. Last year I got matched to Samoset in Maine for this summer, July 5th -12th, about 18 months out

This year I put the same search in, late (in May). I was getting matched to so many things, most of the weeks were the same week, July 4/5, which I can't use because of Samoset. I was afraid to narrow the timeframes b/c I don't trust RCI not to put be further back in the queue, even though they say the date modification wouldn't affect priority.

I have been throwing back great weeks, including Newport, and recently Harbor Hill in P-Town, all for the same dates

I finally narrowed my search to the only dates I am available to travel at this point (third week in July), and I've gotten bupkis (yiddish, or NYese for 'nothing').

Conclusion: with so many people reserving/buying week 26/27 for purposes of exchanging and getting perceived maximum trading power, there are actually more weeks available than other prime summer weeks...

    Food for thought...

I haven't seen that many July 4th weeks showing up in II. But, I suspect they will, the closer we get to the check-in date.

July seems to be the toughest month, in general. Hang in there, you've been getting some great stuff. Hopefully, something good will come your way.

    This showed up this morning.......

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I don't think so. There are only so many weeks to be sold and they're also the most demanded. If you want Cape Cod 1-5Jul, let me know.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

I think we have gotten the answer on changing the dates for your on-going search. In this case I am very sorry that I seem to have been right.

ETA That you got very lucky last month and hopefully will get a match within the 14 day window.

Mmm. I know July 4th week is supposed to be desirable, but for us it's just too early in the summer to go on vacation. In our town, and in a lot of the Northeast, kids don't get out of school till June 26, a Thursday. We would have to leave for vacation on June 28 to be somewhere for July 4th. It's just not enough time to get ready. Also our town has a nice fireworks display that we don't really like to miss.

I don't see all of our friends hot-footing it out of town that week, either--mostly they're trying to persuade us to come to THEIR town's fireworks display!

Which week or dates would be the best to reserve for depositing with an exchange company?

Depends a lot on the resort you are talking about and it's location.

does that mean that you DO get moved back in the queue?? I always thought that changed the ongoing search has no impact...

I agree with Glitter but I think the saavy timeshare owners are adding weeks 26 to 34 to their portfolio because of the ecomomy. I'm seeing deals everywhere. A friend of mine picked up July 4th week in Newport for less than 1000 on Ebay.

Edye from my observations, you can add or delete resorts/areas to an on-going search with no apparent effect. It was the changing of the DATES that seems to have thrown this particular search out of whack.

If Glitter is now stating she is getting ZERO matches when she was getting 2 or 3 a day then it seems to prove out what I have always suspected.

The pity of it is she really only "tightened" her search dates.

What I have been told is that the Holiday DAY should not be the check-in or out day s0 6/28-7/5 is MUCH better then 6/27-7/4
                          For 2009
                          Sunday 6/28 to 7/5 NOT 7/4-7/11
Next best could be Friday 7/3-7/10 as most people would be off on the Friday for the holiday.

Yes, Lawren, I think it entirely possible that I got bumped back. BUT I can't be sure, b/c I've narrowed a 5 week window to just one week. And it's a week for which I didn't see many matches before.

So, we still don't know, but we can continue to suspect.

I am not losing hope, and it'll be ok with me to wait until last minute. And, honestly, I don't even really mind if I don't get match; we have lovely beaches here. I also think the likelihood of a last minute Berkshires exchange is pretty good if I don't get something coastal beforehand.

Hmmm then it is still supposition. Cutting 80% of your search range is a toughie!

The good news is it's a driving vacation and stranger things have happened.
