  • Putting resale unit into RCI account

I bought a resale unit, yes another at Velas in PV.

I would like at some point to add ( not this unit but the studio I own there) to my profile with RCI to have ability to deposit if so desire, I already have a one bedroom at Velas in my RCI deposit file, but I never deposit it as we use it, the studio, is not my favorite, we like space, so I could exchange that if it were in my account ( weeks).

Does RCI do this? Do you have to pay a fee? Anyone know the procedure???

My experience with Rent Condos Instead has been you just call them up and deposit, they take care of any administration and list maintenance at no charge (imagine that). This is contrary to II where adding a property to your profile cost money or a membership extension.

My knowledge indicates that mexican resorts are usually not very strong traders particularly AI resorts with RCI. Do what you can to get a high season holiday week, if Velas allows you to chose what will be deposited.

We just added two to our RCI account. Yes, you do it by calling a Guide.

Allow them time to confirm it with the resort, then check it online. Look where you can deposit weeks to see if it is on the list, and accurate. Ours was not, which is not unusual.

But, FWIW, our new bad trader got us one of our nicest yet SW FL exchanges, but that is another story, for elsewhere.

Okay great thanks for the excellent posts from all....I know the AI resorts are not fantastic traders, but since most of my trades are for Mexico I have fared pretty well anyway and if I deposit it, someone will go somewhere with it, even me, just means another vacation. I may actually use it, but just wanted to know if there was procedure to get it into RCI or II system. So I have my answers thanks.

For now I sent them RCI an email and will see what they respond, if not then will call. Thanks again.

From reading your other post I would absolutley try to rent this unit out until 60-90 days before Check-In. Many many people would love to try a Velas resort with the option of AI fee instead of a Mandatory. If it does not rent 60-90 days prior to check in deposit it. Should be a good renter with this as an option.

I am curious about the optional AI what are the fees as an owner or guest of the owner? Can you pay cash at the onsite restaurants and or Bars? Are there more of these for sale?

B-Z, II's procedure IS different - you have to pay a $39 fee or extend your membership for one year to add a resort to your II account. II 'verifies' the ownership and then you will see that resort added to your II exchange page.
You can then 'test drive' or 'search' using the ownership/week without depositing it.
Searching first is a big II advantage over RCI.... but I don't know off hand if Velas V is affiliated with II.

That is interesting advice about the rental - we have another board member who owns there and from what I understand, owners get the AI for significantly less then exchangers and as a 'guest' of an owner, the renter would be entitled to the lower rate.... just something to think about.

The owner AI fee just increased this year to about $85. per person per night if doing 7 days and like $92/p/pnight if 4 days. I believe you can purchase at the restaurants and bars at the resort using an open credit card at front desk and you just sign for whatever you buy, but not positive as we always do AI thus far. We find it well worth it, for us!

I contacted RCI on adding this unit to my profile and they said have to contact Velas to add and there may be a fee from Velas, so will just check when I am there in July. You are right, maybe renting it would be better as many people like to go there and not do AI, so maybe I will look into doing that. I have never rented out as yet to anyone I do not personally know, so that would be a learning curve for me, but I guess I could start by trying on classified program here.

I really have no clue if there are more of these for sale, you would have to check out holiday, redweek, ebay etc...I bet there are...just make sure optional AI as new contracts are all now mandantory.

Thanks for the advise, I'll sleep on this and decide what to do....plus I am in no rush as I can accelerate my weeks anyway, so can just about get anytime except Easter, X-Mas and New Years!!

Unfotunately the MF's on Velas units I think anyway are on the high side, so have to get at least your AI cost to rent, but still a good option for a renter I guess.

Thanks again for your input I appreciate it!!

Oh sorry I also meant to add...RCI said they do not charge a fee to add units to existing memberships, but the issue was Velas rule or something in my case. So I'll see when I go there...
