  • Converting RCI weeks to RCI points

A RCI rep told me yesterday that I can only deposit two weeks per resort to RCI weeks and then have those converted to points.

We have 38 weeks available at a resort. (A few years ago they said the MF would increase by adding Mexican IVA but allowed MF to be paid in advance. So my husband paid MF (19 years x 2 weeks owned) in advance, thus 38 weeks available.)

Does anyone know if this RCI rep is correct? Is it only if we deposit to RCI weeks then convert those to RCI points? Because if we could deposit additional weeks to RCI weeks that would be nice.

It is my understanding that it is two weeks per year at each owned resort that can be used for points for deposit. If the units owned are weeks and not points you must first deposit to your weeks account and then convert to points for a fee. (remember this is RCI, everything has a fee) The weeks will then be transferred to the points side of your account and the appropriate number of points will appear in your points account in about 10 business days.

I have never heard of a 2 week max per resort for weeks and in that particular statement I would say the VG was incorrect.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you paid 19 years worth of MF for 2 weeks each. RCI can only accept weeks up to 2 years in advance of check-in. So the furthest out you could deposit is 2010.

Let me know if I have misunderstood your post.

I'm assuming you mean "points for deposit". I do know they put in a limit on the number of weeks you can deposit into the same resort. For some reason, I thought it was four weeks. I know I read it somewhere so I'm sure I could be wrong. The person that would know for sure would be BruceCZ as he has run into this issue previously with his ownerships.

          Lawren,

It used to be that you could deposit as many weeks as you could get your hands on and have them converted. Exchangers were getting extra inventory from their home resorts (remember those days) and depositing them in their weeks side of their points account. The owner would call RCI and have the weeks converted (again back when it was free) and then ending up with huge amounts of points. RCI realized that they were getting the short end of the stick and changed the rules to benefit RCI. They now charge for points for deposit and have limited the numbers of weeks per resort that you can convert per year. There was a talk about this OY a year(s) ago. I haven't tried for several years due to many other factors, but I think it has been 4 or maybe 5 years that this has been the "rule".

I understand the cap for PFD but have they also put a limit on the amount of "weeks" you can deposit as weeks and staying as weeks from each resort.

The OP want to deposit multiple weeks and have them all converted to points. She was told she could only convert two weeks.

Does it means OP now can have 38 weeks all in the same year if she wants, or 38 weeks spread over 38 years? Or can be used in any way?

I thought I read the "bruce rlue" is 4 weeks. Not sure about 2 week part. Unless you want to use it all at once, can you deposit x for this year, and y for next year and try to combine them together?

We will be in Ireland/UK/Europe 4/22-6/19/2009 and would like to use RCI points, RCI weeks, II weeks, and anything else to reduce cash outflow.

The resort only allows reservations to be made 12 months in advance. It is a small resort. I will try to get 2 weeks for 2008, 2 weeks for 2009 to deposit to RCI weeks now and request they become points. Then try to get more 2008/2009 weeks to possibly put in RCI points. Then get more reservations if possible to put into other exchange companies.

It seems easier to 'burn up' RCI points faster than weeks. We intend to use 120K RCI points for a catamaran on TradeWinds Cruise Club

It is just so complicated to figure out expiration dates. We generally spend about 4-6 months in late fall/winter in Mexican resorts but want to start alternating with Bora Bora/Tahiti/Hawaii. We don't need any exchanges or points for Mexico so the exchanges we use are only in Summer or early Fall.
