How To Do Ongoing Search in this Case?

I want to get a week before OR ater my 2009 Yellowstone week... for Glacier. I can pull several resorts in the area for the needed time frame but I really want to try for one specific, hard to get, resort, using my tiger traders.

- Should I start 2 DIFFERENT, SEPERATE ongoing requests, using one tiger trader each, for each desired week - and go with whichever matches first and then cancel the other search? My concern is that if I give a 3 week date span, the desired resort will invariable hit for the middle week that I can't use and that will be that for snagging that resort. I read on other threads that a resort match for ANY of the dates that is refused will result is that resort NEVER matching again for that search (a Glitter thread)

- By the way, if I close an account, do all the confirmed future exchanges go away? In other words, I need to have an open RCI account thru any and all exchanges/dates I want to keep. Think so but thought I'd ask

Probably put in 2 separate searches if you can, since it seems to me to be true that once you reject a resort, you won't get a match to that resort again. I couldn't swear that's true in a resort-specific search tho, but why not put all your resources to work to get such a specific date and resort?

You won't get a VG who can answer that question accurately, since they don't know much about how their programming works.

And I doubt you have to keep a specific RCI account open to use confirmed exchange. A confirmation is a confirmation.

Or should be! A VG should be able to answer that question accurately, I'd think, so call to make sure.

I second Laurie's advice re how to search.

Oh yeah - it's RCI we're talkin' about! How silly of me to think logic and fairness would prevail! Never mind that this same member is getting ready to pay for 2 more RCI accounts - she should have to pay for 3!

I am actually only opening one more RCI account - but due to timing I'll have to pay for 2 years of membership on it to get the one trade I want - which I was hoping to avoid but as I didn't have much hope, so be it. This isn't even related to the requesting question above but figured I'd slide it in there while I had eveyone's attention

For the request/ongoing search I can do that all within one RCI account...right?? One tiger week in the account searches for the first weeks' date and the second tiger trader searches for the other weeks' date. OR I could just as easily do one search in one RCI account and the other search in the new account as long as I have the weeks banked to search with. Same difference, right? Whichever one matches first is when we go.

I am SO GLAD you all are here to help me. It's really not very intuitive, is it? How the heck to do all other exchangers out there ever manage??

I recently wanted to put in a request for the week before or after another week I have confirmed. I called a VC to do it so it can be against the same week. However, on my account online, it does not allow me to Modify the search. It says I have to call a VC to do it.

You may call an RCI vc and request very specific check-in dates. For example, let's say you had a confirmed week at Resort # B123 for:

Sat 9/19/09 - Sat 9/26/09

You could call RCI on the phone and say you'd like to search for:

Resort #s 8999, 9999 or A999 for these dates:
Sat 9/12/09 or Sun 9/13/09

Then ADD to THAT search request, the same resort IDs for these dates:
Fri 9/25/09 or Sat 9/26/09

RCI can do this. And it only costs/retains one exchange fee.

As Ann-Marie posted, RCI has no way to show this search's resort IDs and dates online, when there's more than one range of dates OR more than one list of resorts being sought in the search. Therefore, you won't be able to use that searching week to look online and you won't be able to edit the search online either. You'd need to call RCI in order to edit it.

I have done this successfully several times. Not a problem.

Thanks Ann-Marie and Lisa P for this info. I like the one exchange fee and tying up only one tiger week alot. Calling a VC is a little scary though especially if I have no way to verify what is actually done on line afterward

The new account (in my maiden name) is all set up. Just need to close the purchase and get the week transferred in. The other account is ready as I just deposited the first owned tiger week into it.

Hey, here's another question that has been asked and answered differently over time. What's the current thought...? Do banked weeks "age" and get increased trade power (some say yes) or is what you get on deposit it and perceived increases in trade power are more likely due to new deposits being made and now showing up in searches? I ask as I can certainly hold off a bit for putting in my searches if doing so will increase trade power some.

It is my experience that they do not age, but do become stronger after the ownership is verified and the resort confirms the deposit. I have noticed that on more than one occassion. I have a tiger (new deposit) that I had banked and it traded OK; after it was verified it was amazingly strong.

There are a few reasons why I would personally do 2 searches, even though it ties up a second exchange fee earlier:

I prefer to be able to verify what the VG does online, because they have made errors in my account more than once. I like to play with my weeks online, see what else might come up now and then - sometimes I change my mind based on seeing something I hadn't thought of. If there's an increase in exchange fees, I think we can confirm the exchange at the lower original fee, and I'm gonna have to pay that exchange fee at some point anyway. And starting a search earlier can supposedly a benefit (even when you change your search parameters), if 2 people with equal trade power are searching for the same exchange. So I often start and front the $ for searches as soon as I have them in my spacebank. Either can work though, so up to you!

Your second question - in my experience, almost always trade power is fixed upon deposit. Once though I had a drastic increase in trade power of a specific spacebank - whether it was because they belatedly realized it was Easter week, or a computer anomoly, I dunno - I didn't ask questions, just confirmed something fast!

My experience w/trade power is the same as Joycapecod's. Once the week is verified, trade power has been established, but sometimes not before then.

I agree that if you are searching for 2 different dates on one exchange, you then have no way to play with that ongoing search to see what else might be available. However, I have another week searching for something totally different that I can play with.

Based on the teriffic info provided here, this is what I've decided to do: I am going to do each week search seperately. Due to timing of tiger weeks available to bank, the searches will start at different points in time though. One week is being verified with the resort right now in my old acocunt and the other is in closing and will be transferred to my new account within a few weeks. I have just under a year to catch a match so I think I'll be ok.

I decided to do the search this way mainly because:
1) I can set up the searches myself - therefore I have no one to blame but myself if they are wrong.
2) Keeps the VCs away from my accounts!
3) I can play with the weeks as time goes on and things change. They always do after all!
4) Tying up $164 in an extra (or simply early if/when I change the search criteria or grab a week sitting on line) exchange fee is not a big deal to me right now.

I know I asked this sorta already but here it is again with a twist: if my week is in process of being verified (and therefore may have less trade power while in limbo), should I wait until it's verifired to start the search?? Or will it get it's trade boost even though it's aready "tied up" and starting the search ASAP is a good idea?
