  • Another RCI oops

I got an email from an RCI Vacation Interruption Specialist (that's what I wanna be when I grow up) telling me that the unit I exchanged into in July, 2010 at Samoset in Maine was sold by the owner and is not available. Luckily, they found one with a check-in just one day later and they needed my agreement to switch the units.

Since it was a change from a Friday check-in to a Saturday that is better for us anyway so I called to let them know that was fine. Got a bit of a shock when the V. I. S. said that he would refund our exchange fee for helping them out. Wasn't expecting that.

This is the second time something like this has happened but both times had happy endings.

Cool, it is good to see someone get a good one in their favor once in a while.

That's great! I sure wouldn't want RCI to "oops" any of our members out of that trade.

How does something like this happen? I thought when it was deposited into RCI they verify before it can be exchanged.

I didn't really press him on that 'cause I figured what I would be told would not necessarily be anything I would believe.

You know, RCI has goofed with me twice. Both times, they made it right. I've only been timesharing for a few years, but I've gotten a lot of good trades and am overall pretty satisfied with them.

I have been satisfied too with my good trades - just not the price for the exchange.

That's great the they refunded your fees. I seldom have luck with RCI on an exchange basis.

RCI allows deposits two years into the future. Owners are not always required to pay MF's as far into the futrure as they can deposit. Owners deposit weeks that haven't had MF's paid on them, sell the units and the right to use that week will fall to the person paying the fee's. If they didn't want the unit deposited, it appears they can get it back since the MF's weren't paid. Or, when ownership transfers all deposits made by the previous owner get cancelled.

This is, of course, pure speculation on my part but I could see things happening this way. If I try to plan things out much further than 12 to 14 months in advance I find things happen that change my vacation plans.
