  • Should I take RCI travel insurance? What does it cover?

Or is it only 'cancellation insurance' to get your week back?

Because of health issues of a close family member, I would like to start purchasing trip cancellation insurance.
I would like it to cover not only my TS accommodations but also air and car rental costs if I can not travel because of the need to be with a sick family member (mother) or have to cut a trip short and return home because of mothers' illness.

I assume the product RCI is pushing only covers the exchange.

Does anyone have a suggestion for coverage and do you know of a policy that covers ALL your yearly trips????

    Pat,
Travel Smith offers a travel insurance package that may interest you. Too long for me to read thru but you can call and get the brochure and see if it fits your needs. The phone # is 1-877-901-7599 and website is www.travelguard.com/travelsmith. It's called AIG Travel Guard. It has lots of options. Hope it helps.

Look carefully at exclusions though - I looked into something like that awhile ago when a family member was sick, and seemed they would only cover trip interruptions for illnesses not already diagnosed - sorta like someone who is sick trying to get health insurance these days. I ended up deciding it wasn't worth it in my case.

Access America should cover this -- including what they consider preexisting conditions as long as you buy their policy within 14 days of booking the air fare , etc.
Read it carefully or call them as I am not positive but a friend believes this to be the case and has taken the insurance for this same reason (mom).

YOU determine a dollar amount , they give you a rate (about 4%, ie $1000 coverage about $40)

This does say it covers existing conditions...and I will call them because my question is - I am booking a cruise NOW for 2010 (it's a sickness, I know!) but I will not book the airfare until 2009 so how should I value that part of the trip?
Or will I have to take an additional policy at that time for the airfare????
Or will they allow me to increase the policy at that time to include the airfare amount????
