  • Expiring RCI week

I have a RCI week that expires this November (2008)....
I already have vacations with other weeks planned for next month (Oct '08) and March 2009 so it is doubtful I could use before May or June 2009.
Is it worth while to extend it or let it expire???? Any other options???Thanks for any feedback.

I guess it partly depends on how "good" a week it is, how well it trades, and also on how much the maintenance costs. If it's a really strong trader, it seems like it would be worthwhile to extend it.

If it's kind of a dog and the maintenance is low, you might as well cut your losses.

If the other weeks are also RCI, call a VG and ask to switch your confirmation for Oct 08 to the expiring week, if the week you booked Oct. with expires later. They'll do it if there aren't any trade power issues.

My October week is with II. What happened is I used oldest week to
make a resrvation for last March which I had to cancel after making my March 09 reservation. I asked RCI at that time if I could exchange weeks and they said no. They advised Id have to cancel March week, and lose exchange fee ($199), pay to extend the older week, and then rebook again with older week and pay another $199 exchange fee. And they could not commit to me that week would be available after I cancelled.

Paul, How was the trade power on this week?

If it was very strong it might be worth the $ to extend it. If it wasn't you have a couple of options. You can let it expire ( I just hate when a week goes to waste like that.), you can use it for a last minute exchange that you can drive to and even if you use 3 or 4 days for a long weekend it might be well worth it. I'm seeing very lovely northeast things between now and end of October. Or you could offer it up for a LM at the cost of exchange and guest cert to friends, family or the members here.

Thanks, Lawren...If I wasnt already going to California for 10 days next month, I would be down the Cape in a heart beat....I still might do that in November...Do you happen to know which TS's down the Cape may have a Friday check-in??? Or maybe I will extend for 3 months and try to grab a Florida week that I can get a reasonable cost flight to....If those options do not materialize, Ill do what you suggest, and offer it up for exchange and guest fees.

Have you noticed two different Tortuga on Sanibel Island weeks that Lawren has posted? They are for Nov 09 and if you can do that, it would cetrtainly pay to extend that Nov 08 week for one year and go there.

I too have been in that situation. I've let 2 weeks expire in RCI. But yet I continue my never ending addiction and I BUY MORE!?!

Im going to have the same problem. I have 3 weeks right now that expire on 8-31-2010. I will only probably use two of them by then b/c i will have another week coming in 2009 and another in 2010. How much is the extension fee?

Also, weeks are good for 2 years after the original check in date, right?

It is good for 2 years after the original check in date at the end of that month, so if your check in date is July 4 2008, it is good till July 31 2010.

As to fee, you can extend them by 3 month or 6 month
