  • Trading Power ? for Bootleg

Hi Bootleg! I was just reading through the some of the postings and you said something that I did not understand. You said that "The HGVC has first priority with RCI" when making a deposit. Now, according to the RCI FAQ's, trading power is determined by six factors:

How soon you deposit your Vacation Week.
The supply, demand, and usage for your home resort.
The supply, demand, and usage in your resort's region.
Comment card ratings for your home resort.
The size and configuration of your unit.
The seasonal designation of your vacation week.

Nowhere in this definition does it say owning at one place has priority over another, assuming all six factors apply to both. Where does my timeshare stand in this pecking order (Grandview at Las Vegas)? Does this mean that if I deposit over a year in advance, someone depositing at the last minute owning at HGVC can get the same place before me (again, all other things being equal)?

For the record, I did a successful exchange into an HGVC resort (it took 8 months). So I just ask this question out of curiousity, not out of displeasure. And since everytime I call RCI they ask me to deposit time, I like to have a realistic expectation about what I will get in return.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't own at HGVC but there are some reason why their members get such great trades thru RCI.

I believe that HGVC does bulk deposits. So there is never a late deposited HGVC. The HGVC are given some of the highest trading power because their resorts have great demand and almost all their weeks are red 1-52.

    Hope that helps

One other reason HGVC gets priority..

Its the only top branded hotel chain timeshare that is still with RCI.
RCI doesnt want to lose them to II.

RCI has many agreements with various large management compaines for special perks.
VRI, Grand Pacific Resorts, HGVC .. I'm sure there are many more.

RCI doesnt want to lose a large portion of the thier top resorts. It would be a much bigger loss to lose Grandview compared to HGVC Flamingo Vegas

        Bill,
If there are so many deposits, why did I wait 8 months when I deposited a year and a half in advance. Remember too that I said all things equal, Grandview also is Gold Crown, red all year. And I did get one HGVC I requested, but a second HGVC I did not get. In both cases, I was initially offered non Gold Crown resorts, but I held out and got Gold Crown.

        CaliDave,
I understand what your saying, but for someone like me who is relatively new to timesharing, I am trying to learn all the factors going into a good trade. If there are seven factors, then they should list seven (the seventh being a particular resort company). Perhaps there are ten factors, or twenty.....

          Chris

          These are all good questions.

But, you must remember "Life isn't fair"
And "Anything dealing with RCI, isn't fair at all." LOL

          Let's hear what Bootleg says.

            Chris,

One thing you need to learn with RCI is "Red isnt always Red"

Take Southern California Coast for example. I believe 1-52 is listed as red

I have done enough analysis to know that on a trading scale of 1-100
summer weeks are top traders, can't be beat. lets say a 100
            spring weeks a 75
            falls weeks a 65
            winter weeks a 50

So even though all weeks are red.. there are degrees of Red and they have huge variations.

I think the 6 rules of trading power is a guideline, RCI bends these guidelines for particular resort affliations.

Red does not mean Red. And depositing Gold Crown quality is not an indicator of getting what you want, that's not on the list...

How soon you deposit your Vacation Week.
The supply, demand, and usage for your home resort.
The supply, demand, and usage in your resort's region.
Comment card ratings for your home resort.
The size and configuration of your unit.
The seasonal designation of your vacation week.

it does have something to do with what you may be offered based on the VEP - Vacation Experience Profile and how much of a difference they'll let you trade for in respect to what you deposited.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®
