Dear RCI,

Although we appreciate that your search engine has undergone improvements, we do not care if there are 160,417 units available for exchange over a two year period worldwide against our deposited week. It is much prefered if we could target our loctions and timeframes before we are given the search results.

The way things stand now it is taking over 30 minutes to determine that there is NOTHING available for my area and dates. I much prefer to be disappointed immediately.

It May Be My Fault

Yesterday I sold a week to new folks. I had emailed Feedback to ask about joining RCI if they wanted to.

So when I met with the new folks, the last thing I said was if you wanna get together and see how this works online, let me know, and they said yeah, they really wanna do that.

I wonder how much $$$ this upgrade will cost them?

I may be mistaken, but I believe this new search method has been available to those who wanted to opt for it, but it is stupid to take away the old method completely.

I didn't know what you were talking about so I went online and did a search. I must be in the minority here but I like it. The only thing that is slow for me is when I want to look at the next page of search results, that takes a bit of time. But I do like, for instance, that it shows me how many units are available in Princeville, Lahaina, etc. when searching Hawaii. I guess I will have to work with it a bit more so I can work up to the sense of frustration the rest of you are having.

Also, my little Sudwala is trading like gangbusters. Pulling two bedrooms in primetime in Hawaii. I like that too!

I agree that there are positives here, too. For example, there is only 1 deposit available with my SoCal unit as an exchange at Capri By the Sea between now and July, 2011. That information would have taken far longer to gather under the old system.

I also agree there are negatives here. If you know what you want it takes longer to figure out its not there.

I can pull great exchanges this AM, but when I go to confirm them, there is a glitch and I can't confirm. I called RCI and got the usual doublespeak. They are showing me the whole inventory but not allowing me to confirm with the blue 2BR I am using. Unfair to tease like that.

That just means the part where you have to pay more money to make that exchange hasn't been implemented yet. Their call center is going to implode with all of the people that are going to call them about this message if you lack the trade power to make the exchange they displayed for your blue week:

That just means the part where you have to pay more money to make that exchange hasn't been implemented yet. Their call center is going to implode with all of the people that are going to call them about this message if you lack the trade power to make the exchange they displayed for your blue week:

Logging out and back in cleared that for me. I actually got to the hold/confirm page on the Hershey 7/09 week with a white week but I will be in Hawaii then.

Under the old method, I selected FL/SW FL, and my dates, and in one step it showed me the resorts available. The last time for January, 2010, there were four resorts.

A search took a matter of seconds.

I got the new method to work . . . almost.

Through five or six steps I filtered it down from the 162000 to the same 4 (I assume), except for that last step, Southern Gulf Coast, would not open.

So, you can there from here, almost, taking the new, scenic route.

Next I am going to try entering all of the SW FL resort codes, and then try the search method at the bottom.

The Resort ID search appeared to work . . . It actually got to where it said none were available, which I knew from recent searches. I miss not seeing what is available, even though I don't want it.

That page gave an option to search the new way, so I did that. Through a series of five or six steps I narrowed it down again, this time changing to the desired check-in date, 1/9/10, once I got to Florida. Then I changed to Southern Gulf Coast and there were the same two resorts I saw yesterday, ones I don't want.

So, why not give the member the option of one quick and easy step (the old way), or the new, time-consuming, braggart scenic route?

Eight hours later.... I see some shiney bits. As long as the change from macro-searching to micro-searching doesn't take 10 minutes or more, and the resorts that aren't actually there get removed, I may be able to work within the new format for the benefit of our membership.

Not saying I LOVE it just saying I can learn to live with it. Given no choice.

I like it. And it was working better for me as the day went on. Until it stopped working. But that's par for the course with RCI. I like being able to see everything available in the Northeast for two years at a time. Hallelujah!
