  • No $$$ To Put Something On Hold!!!???

I just used the last good week, pre-neutering, to put Fairham Nashville for Girls Week Out '09 on Hold. It didn't take any new money. It asked for it, but then didn't give a form to give it, and the next page showed the Hold.

    Whassup with that?

    really....

    I mean REALLY????

    huh.

I guess I better find something that intrigues me enough to book and give this a try.

and you obviously go your own way as I lovingly refer to those resorts as Wynfield.

Maybe, you should log out (clear your cookies) and log back on and see if it is still in your hold account.

I ran into the same thing as well. I think the only we'll know is if it shows up on the credit card. I have found they keep that info on file. Maybe it is charged automatically now.

          It is still on Hold.

It does not appear on either of 2 possible credit cards.

If they auto-do it to the last card I used with them, that will screw things up as I did a balance transfer and have stopped using that card for the duration of the transfer.

Actually, last month I started using the RCI Elite Rewards Card again and earlier today redeemed for $50 RCI credit.

I've put a week on hold yesterday without inputting a credit card. I recently cancelled an on-going search and didn't put in for the balance refund so I thought maybe that was why my hold took without any need to input a credit card. But then I put a second week on hold today without inputting a credit card (and there is not enough in my RCI balance to cover two exchanges).

Cleared cookies and cache and both hold weeks are still showing up in My Account page.

I don't think they could possibly be charging a credit card without getting approval. Besides the last credit card they have on file for me I cancelled last summer so it is not a valid card any longer.

I considered the account balance from a cancelation refund, but that is not it either. The refund was on the credit card account when I looked.

Besides, online transaction always take new money. If you want to use an existing balance for an on-line transaction you have to charge the new one to a CC and then call and request a refund an to use the balance.

Anyway, back to the beginning, our old good trader was good only until July, '09, but that is now in DW's new work schedule. Yesterday her boss asked if she wants to come back next year, and said that getting a July week off won't be a problem is she asks at the beginning of the year.

So, she gave me the OK to go ahead and book a week in Nashville, sometime after the 4th, so fam can come here for the 4th, then go to Nashville B4 school starts.

I hate to guess how many searches that deposit has done . . . 4000-ish!

It took new money to confirm it.

Maybe this is a streamlining step, to save money and work by eliminating having to do as many refunds.

The speed (lack of) refunds has always been a sore point, although they have gotten quicker.

I have put 3 units on hold since the new website appeared and did not have to pay for any of them until they were confirmed.

Come to think of it, when I put that Little Gull on Hold not long ago, it took new money, but that was the old search engine. That refund was on one of our cc statement when I looked to check on this. I had wondered why my cc balance and the one online didn't match, and that's why.

Actually, I had already paid off that credit card balance . . . then the refund hit, so they do not have it instantaneous yet. They don't give it back as fast as they take it. But, I understand that it is a checks and balance thing, that they don't allow the people that take money to be the ones to give it back, as that could cause problems (when you don't trust your employees).

Now, anyone got a good explanation for why they have to have new money for online transactions, why you can't use a credit balance in your account?

Yes - it's called "float". I don't think they want to spend development $ to reduce their cash-on-hand.

And my current huge complaint is that you can't modify an ongoing search yourself, unless you put something on hold and release it. So I did this on one of my ongoing searches, just to be able to access and modify my own ongoing search.

But instead of keeping the $ on a modified search and allowing me to go change it, the new system *cancels* the ongoing search, and puts the $ onto your account. You can't then use the $ on acct to enter your new ongoing search... you have to call them and waste everyone's time, ask for a refund which takes many days, and pay for a new ongoing search, which takes your $ for a new exchange fee right away.

I'm pretty annoyed with RCI these days, though I'm glad to know putting something on hold no longer requires upfront $.

I was running out of time, but next time I am going to put something I want on Hold and then call and see if I can use a credit balance, from RCI Elite Rewards.

We just started using it again last month and we already had $50 credit.
