  • I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'm having a blonde moment, again, help

I used RCI points to book a week at Villa L'Auberge for this year. I would like to stay at one of the GPRs in July 2010.

    I'm almost positive that I can't.

If I had booked points to points the 1-in-4 would not apply but because I booked a weeks resort in that group ( no matter how I did book it) I just blocked myself out until 2013.

    Right?

Lawren if that's true and you want to stay there again within four years, we could probably work something out. I'm not going there before 2013.

      Yep. That's the deal.

The GPR 1/4 restriction knocks out an awful lot of nice resorts. I'm a little down in the dumps as well as I'm not sure where we're going next summer.

Interval just doesn't have the same inventory.

When GPR first came out with their cartel, Cali-Dave and I did quite a few comparative searches. He owns a GPR and I don't.

Even with a top trader I could not even see peak season stuff he could see.

Seems like they backed off on that a bit.

It means that if you have exchanged into a 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 resort, you cannot do so again with the same RCI account for that timeframe. The resort determines how it works.

In the case of GPR, they have several highly desireable resorts in SOCAL, and they apply the restriction to all of them, so that if you have exchanged into one you cannot exchange into any of them in their timeframe.

When you select any restricted resort online, this is explained before you confirm it, like this:

                  Urgent Information
RCI EXCHANGER: GROUP RULE IS STRICTLY ENFORCED FOR ANY COMBO OF THE FOLLOWING RESORTS: 1285 1379 2885 3007 3987 A474 & 5362. ONLY 1 CONFIRMATION ALLOWED PER MEMBER ACCOUNT IN 4 YEARS. EXCEPTIONS INCLUDE: GPR OWNERS, CONSECUTIVE WEEKS & MULTIPLE CONFIRMATION W/SAME START DATE

To illustrate the significance of this cartel, right now 606 of 1070 exchanges to SOCAL are affected. Extrapolating and guesstimating based on my exchange window, taking one of these exchanges would eliminate around 1600 exchanges over the next four years.

In another thread yesterday or today, I mentioned the frustration of going to a resort and seeing beaucoups units sitting empty, knowing you cannot get any of them. Now, add seven desireable resorts for the next four years to that and that is frustrating.

Of course (as if I had to say it), it is for pure marketing purposes, cuz if you buy anything at any of them the restriction disappears.

Some don't even go that far. I think one of them (Groupo Mayan?) requires that you use a unit in that system to get around the 1-in-4.

Still not get it? What's there not to get?

If you trade in, you can't again in the pertinent timeframe . . . pretty simple.

What I said, you find out online when you select one, before you confirm it.

                          Solution Trade outside of RCI
For the Grand Pacific Resorts they have their own exchange company GPX maybe they would take one of your deposits in trade
Otherwise SFX or one of the other exchange companies.
Also if they have them on Extra Vacations or Last Call
(Cash Transactions as I was told by a guide) The rules dont apply.

HTSE gets some inventory, too. I try to post them on the HTSE ex-ops board when I see them.
