  • Wyndham deposit & using RCI website to do availability searches

I am a new Wyndham owner. My points for 2008 expire the end of March, so I deposited them with RCI. When I spoke with RCI they told me that I would not be able to search their website for availability, that I would have to call. She did say that there would not be any charge for that. I was just wondering if this is a new policy? And just verifying that I was told correctly.

I was also wondering ..if I deposit enough points for a studio, does that limit my chances of getting into a resort or does it help my chances? The lady at Wyndham said that it is based on availability and if you are next and all they have is a 2 bedroom then you will get a 2 bedroom. Any comments?

1: That's correct. It's not really new. It is possible to ask for (and maybe even get) a deposit that can be used on the website. There is also a rumor afoot that this limitation might be lifted in the not too distant future, but I don't put much stock in it.

2: Conventional wisdom is that a Red 1BR is marginally more powerful than a Red Studio, but usually not by enough to make a difference. I've traded several studios into larger units. You won't ever get the really high-demand exchanges, because Wyndham FSP deposits don't have sufficient trade power. But, you can get shoulder-season weeks, over-deposited areas, and they also seem to have a bit of extra pull for internal exchanges to other Wyndham resort.

There will be no extra charge. It treated as if you are doing search yourself. But RCI does charge exchange fee.
