  • No More Red, White and Blue???

The newest RCI Weeks Directory has no reference to Red, White or Blue "seasons" or High/Average/Low demand exchange periods.

They do provide a four colored scale at the beginning of each chapter of regions which is very questionable and certainly not encouraging or helpful.

Is there been any information provided by RCI as to why or how this affects us as members?

While I do not have a specific quote, I believe the general drift is "we don't care about you, the members, as we are seeking our revenue from the general public by renting out your deposits. The seasons grids aren't going to help you since there will be no resorts to be had once we've rented them all."

I think there was an actual response about the shrinking of the 'catalogue' that was some reference to Going Green with the strong suggestion of "look it up online so we don't have to print it".

BoardGirl, I couldn't have written it better. It's sort of like "we don't care, we don't have to."

        Exchanging through RCI

I had 3 weeks deposited to the RCI space bank and wanted to get 3 weeks in one nice resort in exchange, but they don't show the resorts which may have 3 or 4 weeks in a row. If they have only 1 week here and 1 there, how can I find a resort I like for the number of weeks I want to stay?

You know, complaining in an online forum about being asked to do things online seems just a tad ironic to me...

(More seriously: the information is in the online directory. Red/White/Blue designations are still there, and still mean everything they used to mean---which is to say, not much.)

The online directory can be cumbersome to use. Try looking up the UK, where they show hundreds of rental vacation cottages that apparently are for rental only, not exchange. So why should exchangers have to wade through all of them to try to find exchange resorts? Their online directory is just nuts.

The other thing is that some of our most senior owners may not be very, um, internet-friendly. It's a disservice to them. My mother, for example, would never be able to figure it out and would give up.

Opti, it's not really set up that way, but you can enter a date range at the bottom (not along the left where all the other filtering is). Check the resorts in the results to see where you might get consecutive weeks.

RCI absolutely needed to include that functionality because sometimes people just want to go "in summer" and it would be a pain to check Month by Month by Month.

Hopefully this will come about in the Points-side, as well. That interface is awful.

The R/W/B designations have always been pretty much BS anyway, like most other things in timesharing, used as a marketing tool to get more money from us.

Nothing could be farther from the truth than being Red all year.

Searching online you can select anything you want. If you put in the area you want to visit, you can select a specific month, or you can select a range of dates.

A calendar appears with each date anything is available. Click on the dates you want to see what resorts are available. You can see all available resorts for any area, or all areas, for any check-in date.

The entire process takes about 5 minutes. I know because I do that every morning for the next two years we want stuff. I have for 12 years.

How could it be any easier?

An afterthought . . . Ray and Darlene Harper TSed 26 weeks a year. Sometimes consecutive weeks at the same resort, but mostly moving each week.

                    Never heard them complain.

Afterthought #2 . . . Do what so many have done in SW Florida in Snowbird Season . . . buy the weeks you wanna be there every year, and keep going back.
